    another mustang newbie

    Hi guys

Im Zach... Im 20 own a 2006 mustang and came here to learn how to build my first carputer ... ive been around computers my whole life and ive had some nice competition systems in cars .. now i want to merge the best of both worlds ... I am hoping to run a carputer as my deck with a high quality sound card to run my speakers opposed to an amp although I do have a few amps laying around if I find out thats not possible ... but ive seen some great installs on here like blk02si's mustang install and I look forward to learning alot and hopefully teaching other people someday

anyways... thats enough about me just wanted to say hi

    Hi and Welcome

Don´t forget to post a project thread once you are on the go
Are you going to use the stock amps/and speakers? Or will you change everything?

Im a planing to use the stock speakers/amps for my install. Hopefully I will get it to work

hi! id suggest running amps because the output on a soundcard is way to low not to have an amp! anyway here is definitly the place to learn about everything. welcome to the forums!

umm...you're not going to be able to power your speakers direct from a sound card. You MUST run an amplifier...

Having "nice competition systems in cars" I'd think this would be better understood...??

thanks for the info ... ive read that a few places and realized that now ... for some reason I was thinking that a sound card could have trhe ability to put out even more clear sound than an amplifier but clearly i was wrong ... thanks for the direction

Amplifier's don't "put out" sound. The sound card does, all the amplifier does is multiply the input voltage by some number. This is what we call 'gain'. Although noise can be introduced during this process, in general, the sound card is more important than the amp. Considering you are not hitting any saturation limits.

yes I understand that an amplifier puts out voltage not sound lol ... I simply meant that I thought a sound card would produce clearer sound than if i hooked up my sound card to an amp and then ran the speakers through the amp ... hence the interference you are speaking of ... although my am that is runnin my car speakers now is perfect for it so there are no worries there ... I think ill be able to make ths sound even better than my current "active" set up with a high quality sound card
