    Newbie from Australia

    Hi All,

Starting to do my research into carputers and was directed to this site by a member on my AustralianXtrail forum who has installed a carputer himself.

Lots of searching and reading to do first

I'd suggest you start with the FAQ link in the nav bar up above then move onto the FAQ sub-forum.

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the tip.
With all the information here it could have taken a while to find the right place to start.

Good to see another member from Sydney. Hopefully there will be a Sydney meet towards the end of Jan or early in Feb, so you can come and check out some other systems.

    Hi Meddler,

During my searching and reading I've found the Australian Maps thread and noticed there are more Oz people than I thought on this forum and in lots of places around Oz.

Wondering now, what setups everyone has in regards to navi system and maps.
It seems that Destinator is the main choice.
Are there any others for us in Oz ?

You can use tomtom, but I think it's not as carpc friendly as Destinator. Also there is oziexplorer but it doesn't have turn by turn nav. Destinators down side is they don't update the maps very often.

Didn't know TomTom made nav software for PC as I've always only saw their nav units.

Have you looked at Microsoft Streets & Trips ?
It seems to be USA and Europe based only.
Do you know if they have Oz maps or can it use WhereIs maps ?

S&T is US / Europe based only AFAIK.

I am not aware of anything else that runs on a PC. (everyone is welcome to prove me wrong )
