WVGA support w/ VIA VB7001

I've been looking to get the VIA VB7001 motherboard. But my main concern is WVGA support for these 7in touch screen monitors.

Alot of people have the VIA EPIA M10000 motherboard and looking at the VGA specs its using: "Integrated VIA Unichrome™ AGP graphics with MPEG-2 Accelerator" which is the same as the motherboard I wanted to get. Ive read about some of these motherboards not supporting the native resolution of the 7in WVGA 800x480. I made a post on VIA Arena and got the following response.

My main concern is being able to output at the native resolution, without using powerstrip. If anyone can give me some input it would very much be appreciated.

If the two devices will work properly I'm leaning towards the VIA VB7001 motherboard and the Lilliput 619 monitor.

I wouldn't count on achieving the resolution you deisre with that motherboard, as it utilizes the Unicrap graphics chipset as well.

I have the VIA VB7001. It does not do 800x480. Last time I tried, Powerstrip would not make it do 800x480 either. If you find a way, let me know. I use a Lilliput 7" (619) touch screen so 800x480 would be nice to have finally.

Other than lack of 800x480, the VIA VB7001 has exceeded my expectations, considering its low price.

Whats the output res on your setup? 800 x 600? and how does the picture look?

The low price & the feature set is mostly what grabbed my attention. I don't have the board yet, still spec'in out my setup. Originally I've been building this around the 619, but it looks like i can fit a 8in which would give me a native resolution of 640x480. I would be able to run the monitor at the correct resolution which is important to me.

I have no way of seeing these monitors before I purchase them so maybe someone will some hands on experience can help me out. I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision to go with the Lilliput 809GL over the Lilliput 619? Its true the 619 has more dot res but the 8in is a 4:3 aspect ratio so video support shouldn't be a problem. Even says it supports 1024x768 but I don't know how well it looks.

This Thread my be old, but title fits perfect.

I also had the problem to get my ctf700-h with 800x480 working on VB7001. Unfortunately I didn't get a positive answer from the VIA support as other users with other boards did. So i said "no risk no fun" and extracted the VGA-part from the current Jetway 7F2WA v18.3 BIOS (has same north- (cn700) and south-bridge as far as i could find information) and overwrote the VGA-Part in the 1.03 for my VB7001. Flashed the new binary with winflash from within windows and restarted. And TADA under the "unsupported" modes in Windows 800x480 is listed among others. Works only in 60Hz for me as higher frequencies are out of range, but thats enough ;-)

Bios extracted with cbrom 2.15

(have set displaymode/-type in bios to 08, don't know if its important but i leave this information here just in case)

So I was able to get ViaTech to send me a BIOS for my NX15000G (should also work with EX15000G) board with the CX700M2 / S3 Unichrome graphics with 800x480 listed as a mode supported by the graphics chip. I can select it in Windows, but when it switches over, it's actually running at 640x480. ViaTech has declined to provide any further support due to the age of the board. At this point, I don't know if it's a driver issue or a BIOS issue and am not sure where to go next. Anyone got any tips?

Honestly, if you really want 800x480 resolution, your best bet is to go with a different motherboard.
The MII is almost ten years old now. That's positively ancient in the computing world.

yes i realize that. however, i've already invested a bit of money in this and there are no other nano-itx motherboards out there that are any better. that form factor seems to be dead from what i can tell. also there don't seem to be any other motherboards that have all the I/O on headers instead of the back panel.

also, it's not the MII it's the NX15000G which has a CX700M2 Via chipset. that board is only about 4 years old, which is only "ancient", as opposed to "positively ancient".
