    Hello! Newbie from Colorado.

(I'll be surprised if anyone reads past the first 3 sentences lol)

hi, I've been lurking on the forums for the last few days now and am really impressed with a lot of the setups I've seen. I'm completely new to building the carputer but am looking forward to maybe trying to install one in my 03 GTI this spring, i do overnight security in my car so having this would be wonderful. I've built a lot of computers before and worked on cars before but haven't really thought about putting the two together until now.

Originally i was thinking of doing a mac mini setup because of the ease of the install but the front ends look really cool and the extra effort i think would be worth it, since i can easily build a computer on my own.

i was looking at this post a lot: 2005 Mkiv Vw Gti and really dug what he did with his GTI.

now i understand a lot of how the power works with a carputer setup but what I'm having a bit of a hard time finding info on is how to get the computers audio to work with the car. i understand that you have to get a sound card for your ITX board but what after that, it appears that most people use there carputer to replace there cd decks, and thats my plan as well. If theres no deck where is the preamp for the audio and where do the speakers hook into? what i'm guessing is that you need a 4-channel amp for the speakers or is there an easier way? All i have are the stock speakers and a 500 watt sub woofer setup so I'm not crazy about audio quality. My speakers are component and have tweeters i'm not sure if thats gonna effect it or not, i think they are probably just a normal 200x4watt setup but might be higher.

    any clarification would be appreciated.

I would also read here about the MAC mini- just think it's important to look at it from every angle: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gene...you-carpc.html

yeah after reading those that cleared a lot up for me, i was planning on going PC route and I'm pretty sure I'm going to now. however in that cold it sounded like the mac mini was more resistant to cold than normal PCs cause the reality is that i live in Colorado, our winter lasts 8 months (snows from OCT - may usually). but it usually doesn't drop below 15F.

also that amp diagram cleared up alot, its pretty much how i thought i'd have to go about doing it with the amp and what have you.
