Newcomer looking to gain some knowledge on audio hardware

I registered on this forum in order to gain some knowledge in the audio-related field. I was wondering if somebody could post the main functions of Amps, Subs and such. Can somebody also tell me how to deferentiate between a good piece of hardware and a bad one as I am planning to put a banging sound system into my upcoming vehicle. What should I look for when buying amazing(?) speakers, deck, amps, subs and the whole shibang?

Thank you, I will be around for a while reading posts most of the time!

    Hey H2O

This is essentially a Car PC forum, though most of us DO have our carpc's connected to a car audio system of some sort. So, if you're looking for car audio forums (without necessarily the carpc):

    http://http://www.elitecaraudio.com/
    http://http://www.realcaraudio.com/

There are more...just check the car audio forum here. There is a sicky at top that's titled "have car audio specific questions?"

But, if you're planning a carpc install, let me say:

    >You can rip ALL of your cd's to carpc at very high quality
    >Carpc sound output cards can produce exceptional sound results
    >It's easy to see album art and play music using carpc touchscreen

Plus, a carpc can have GPS, cameras, ca diagnostic monitoring (OBDII), fm, satellite, etc radio, bluetooth phone functions, etc, etc, etc

It is suggested that a new person take some time to carefuly read a LOT of posts, tedious tho it may be,.

Check out my pictures and you'll see something of what this carpc enthusiast has done.
    Happy CarPC'ing!

    Correction: that's STICKY, not "sicky"

Thanks bruce, but can we let this one thread slide and just simply tell me how to tell the difference between a good amp and a bad amp, a good sub and a bad one? What are the levels or digits that I should be looking for when it comes to these type of products? As you know, im trying to put together a really nice sound system for my upcoming vehicle.

    Thanks

    H,

NOt to belabor the point, but you would have better luck posting in the "car audio" specific forum here.

People like "Red" and "Durwood" are quite knowledgable about the subject and that's where they spend a fair bit of time (durwoods the moderator there too). They can give you very specific recommendations if you like.

    Good luck

^ Awesome, can a mod or an admin move my thread to the Car Audio section so I dont have to make another topic that is exactly the same?

    Thank you
