If you have an old computer power supply laying around (a regular AC powered one) you can convert that into a DC source. Just takes a little research and safety.

Just be sure that the old 'puter psu if you have one, has enough current for the various necessary voltages to power your mobo, etc. I couln't get one of my mobos up 'cause the test psu was underpowered.
When I was broke, I made a long cable with large alligator clips on one end, small on the other, and connected to my car batt. Car parked in driveway just outside of my workshop, only 20' away...lots of amps available...
