Simplest answer is no. Every laptop LCD uses its own proprietory controller board for graphics, and on most laptops thats hardwired to the motherboard as a soldered component or an unremovable element of the motherboard layout itself. Your best hope is to try, but dont be surprised if 10 hours later you haven't got any image AND you've burned out a screen or two from incompatible voltages.

Probability of Dell to Compaq transpant working is very low.

Compaq to HP or visa versa has a higher success rate.

Dell to Alienware is a higher success rate.

Basically if it is made by the same company, they usually cut corners and use the same parts in different flashy cases.

But the best way to know is to take apart the screen and read the serial/model number off the TFT screen itself. The video card is irrelevant. The actual screen model is needed. Probably Hitachi...

Then google the numbers and find pinouts for the screen. If they match it will work. I doubt they will. If the signals match but not in the same area, then you will need a custom cable made which will be a PITA because they are very small.

    good luck.

It can be done but it is not quick and its not easy. A straightfoward swap is highly unlikely, but if you want to run the screen externally get hold of a LVDS or TTL controller and get to work. Check the following link
