You can also power camera using say a dash mount switch (handy if you can't use rear mirrors in forward motion) but as this switch will also power up on your reversing light you need to instal a diode (which only allows current to flow one way) on the camera/switch side of the reverse lights to block power going to lights.
If another input is in use, I do not think this will automatically switch it to the reverse camera's input. You could adapt this to wiring the switch button to a reverse-only power source (using a constant to momentary relay rig for more options). The problem being getting it back to whatever source you want when you put it back into drive - solvable by putting in a double pulse on the same button.

I won't be installing a rear view camera. I don't understand the 'need' for one and will be using the secondary inputs for aux inputs for other devices.

    AnimeCommander,
Thanks for the ideas you shared with me. I can see that, if one input is already being used for something other than the rear-view camera, it would be tricker to ensure that the display goes back to the 1st input after the rear-view camera is switched off.
    Thanks again!

i went the less travelled road.. went on ebay and bought a couple small use video capture devices. Allows you to display the camera feed from within ur skin and soon with the help of the fusion brain i'll be able to pan and tilt my front camera. from RRFusion.

regarding the camera, you can buy cameras in both regular and reverse (mirror) view. most cameras that are designed as backup camera will automatically reverse the image so that it will be displayed as a mirror view with any monitor.

    Hi.

I have the exact same problem of connecting my reverse camera to my PC. I have a double-din Lilliput EBY-701 transflective upgrade monitor. Problem is - buttons for switching from PC to AV1/2 mode are hidden behind the dash. Hence my monitor is always on Pc mode, I'd have to dismount it from the dash each time I reversed in order to press the AV1 button. Is there a way of connecting the RCA cable from the camera directly on the PC? My Pc box has S-vidoe, which I assume is OUT. It also has COMP out.
