Howdy from the land down under

    Hi Guys,

I am a very old newbie , lol, and thought it appropriate to introduce myself.
My history is that I had been in the IT industry for about 20 years, mainly on mainframe legacy systems starting development using COBOL (yikes)...

Anyway, in the last four years, I was forced to move away from my love of computers into another industry where I lost everything and ended up with severe depression. So this year I got back on the horse and re-enrolled into university as a mature age student and doing a bachelor of computer science. I have to admit, I am loving JAVA.... yeah oop!!

I have been tinkering with the idea of car computers for the last two years and looking at it as a business opportunity. So my first car pc I imported from China. I have to admit I was not very happy with it... so I started making changes.

As I was doing my research, I established (well actually my wife) a business and we are about to embark on a carpc business. So I am making a couple of prototypes one with a d945GCLF m/b and the other with a DG45FC m/b. I find these boards being great value for money especially the D945. But I have to admit, the DG45FC I think will kick A$$ as I am putting an E8400 Duo 2 Core which is 3GHz. I have to admit, I have also been thinking about doing some major overclocking and water cooling it, lmfao.

So hopefully I can talk to most of you in the forums, and if possible offer some advice and then again, I might even learn a few things also.

Anyway, I look forward to being a part of this forum.

Do you have a website? I would like to see what products you may be offering.

I do, but it is very bland and not that much information. Once I finish playing with the prototypes, then I will update the web.

    btw, it's www.carcomputers.com.au.

please give me some feedback if you would like.

    cheers.

I used to do a little web development... I could try helping you with your page and that Splunken Sounds logo.

Thanks Ratbagu. I will take you up on that offer when I get to updating it. The Splunken Sounds ain't happening anymore unfortunately.

I'm building a demo car (a nice worked up Skyline R33) for my car pc business. In my dealings I have become a reseller for Crossfire Audio equipment, so I am going to try them out. If the Crossfire is as good as the other product they import, Dynamat, which is a car sound deadening material which is fantastic, then I think I'll be very happy. Only problem is service is a little iffy. But hey, can't have everything.

Hi Filecon, Glad to have a fellow Auzzie in a nearby State. I am about to get into the whole Car PC idea for my MY04 Impreza Hatch. But all the bits and bobs are international sites etc. So will be good to get a few prices from you when you are up and running. I want it for Entertainment (Music) not DVD watching, GPS (definatley) and Onboard Diagnostics from the Car ECU etc via the OBDII port etc.
I kinda like the Lilliput 7 inch type screen but I see on your site a flip down type with built in drive and then I assume the PC itself will be nice under my passenger seat etc.

    Cheers
