My Newbie ??? about front ends

I have searched and am wanting to do some testing of different front ends before deciding. I have read a lot of positive things about RoadRunner and would like to try it out. I can't figure out how to install it though. Is there a walkthrough of this? I can't find anything and am wanting to get started on my project. Thanks in advance for your advice/help

The best place to look is in the Road Runner section of the forums. A beginners guide was just posted a couple of days ago....

I only know of 2 main frontends that most people use. There is Road Runer, that in my opinion is more for programmers and people that know code, and then there is Centrafuse, which is basically all put together for you. RR is free, CF you have to pay. Centrafuse offers a free trial to see if you like it. http://fluxmedia.net

iCT is In-Car Terminal. Thats what I use. Its free. Its simple. You can skin it with paint. It's not the greatest frontend but very functional.

perhaps that was the case in the earlier days of RR, but the latest version of RR (along with BlueZX2's easy to use RRconfig program) is pretty much good to go right out of the box. I am not a programmer and I don't 'know code', I am pretty much useless when it comes to software and programming, but I can use RR just fine. any minor issues you come across can usually be resolved with a simple MP3car/google search.

you can download the latest RR installer here. it is a .exe installer, just click the icon and it will install itself just like any other program. It comes with the "carwings" skin which is ok, but I would recommend DFX4 (Digital FX 4.0), you can download it here. it is an awesome skin by JohnWPB with a great layout and a ton of built-in features. just like RR, the skin has an installer, just click the icon and it will install itself (install RR first before you install DFX4)

    good luck

RR comes with an installer, DFX4 comes with an installer. Run both and then you are good to go.

Be aware the RR uses Winamp as the player, so if your music appears in Winamp, it will appear in RR. It it isn't seen by Winamp, you'll need to use Winamp to find it.

RR does use Winamp, but I find Winamp very easy to use. I haven't had trouble finding any of my music. I'm pretty sure all you have to do is set the path in RR config.
