I'm curious about this as well. I'm in a similar situation since I have an extra pc doing nothing (Dell Optiplex GX270 - P4 w/1 GB ram) that I could use. The power supply quesion is really all I need answered to get started - that and order the screen

Time to take a trip through the FAQs, specifically this one: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/advf...iew&advfaqid=6

Yours is possibly a special case.
Dell is notorious for making their power supplies conform to their own standard.
They have even used what appears to be a PSU that complies to ATX standards as far as connectors, but the pinout is completely different.

While the above-linked FAQ will be helpful in determining your power requirements, you also need to make 100% certain that that Dell motherboard truly is ATX-compliant if you want to use one of the ATX DC-DC power supplies.
Chances are your newer model is aTX compliant, but you want to be certain before you start plugging things in, lest you see smoke.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I will read through the FAQ and attempt to avoid the blue smoke of electronic death.
I also have a mini-itx mobo with a via c3 but I think the mobo is bad because I have tested another socket 370 proc and swapped the memory and it does not boot (power supply is known good). I could always replace that board and go that route but I like the idea of more horsepower and larger case for airflow.

    Thanks for the info.

    HI

    I have similar issue ,

I want to use my GA-MA790GP-DS4H gigabyte motherboard to build a carputer . But now i am thinking of two thing

1- Hot temperature ----- i'm living in a v.hot area ( sometimes it reachs 50 degree) and i dont know if this motherboard can hold on or not .

2- The power issue >>> do you think that OPUS 320W Intelligent DC-DC PSU could pawer the motherboard + AMD x2 4600 + ??????

Hello again, well after taking some off from computing i am back.... well i have my computer running without a case to see how it will proform with out one.... so far so good but i dont know about the power supply. the orignal one that i have running right now it a hurcules 500 watt and it is doing just fine so my new question is : Can i run a startup/shutdown chip between the psw and a power inverter ? I guess the reason why i would like to consider that route is because i know what that psw can handle and a i all ready have a good size inverter (500) watts let know some thing guys......Thanks
