This has been a subject that no one has really figured it, everyone has their own opinion on the matter. If you are worried about shock the buy a Solid State Drive (SSD), no moving parts. I use a 2.5 HDD but mounted verticle. CD ROM I dont think it make much difference. I have mine mounted verticle also, onlt because its connected to the HDD. The DC-DC power supply, like the m2-ATX has built in surge regulation and surge protection. My second question how I protect against wear and tear on hard drives and cd drives with everyday bumbs in the road. and my third and final question is how can i protect my carputer from electrical surges that occur all day in automobiles when starting it, ****ting the engine off etc etc.
You may want to search the forums for this, its not too hard. Basically you would install a AMP kit from the battery to the carpc. Then wire the carpc powersupply to that line and the ground of the powersupply to a ground. The powersupply also has an ACC line which would go to the ignition wire that would connect to the heaadunit that use to go there.
Im starting my project with mini-box voom-pc2 and i selected the intel board with the embedded atom processor for its low power cunsumtion. I have downloded the manual via their website but it doesn't go into detail about wiring into the car so i guess now i have a forth question..lol How do i wire it into the car. i have a memphis audio system in my car and im going to remove the head unite completely and with doing that i won't have a remote turn on and im guessing the car pc will do that.
Thanks for any help here.
