With the right video card or motherboard it's easy enough. The problem you're going to have is that the video quality will be awful. Text will be pretty much unreadable.
Is it possible to hook up your carPC to your screen via a S-Video cable? I have an aftermarket touch-screen deck in my car, but all it has is a Video In port. All of the MoBo's I've been looking at don't say they have Video out ports.
I know the best way to hook up PCs is the VGA port, but I'd rather not have to go buy a new screen for $300 when I just recently got this new deck.
Thanks!

Yuck.
And I doubt I'd be able to get sound either from my computer either.
Well if it has an axillary in port of some sort you could use that.
I'm not sure if you've seen my first post or not, I had asked a similar question but only got one response.
I'm using a Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD deck in my car. It has an Auxiliary Input in the front of it, and an A/V Input/Output on the back of it. I believe it's a TFT screen. It runs in QVGA, which to me sounds "similar" to VGA, so hopefully it wouldn't be too bad when it comes to clarity.
If it all comes down to it, I could always get a LCD screen.
I have a really bad habit of post skimming and missing stuff.
Kind of sad considering I'm an engineer. (a real engineer not one of those computer jokers)
Sounds like hooking audio up through your headunit is doable. QVGA doesn't equal VGA, lower pixel density. I would consider trying it out. You won't get touch screen with it though. But if you can
make it work for you why the heck not.
I have a feeling it's going to look like poop though.
Damn, no touch screen with it even though it is touch screen?
That's okay, I can always buy the parts slowly for my carPC and by the time I have them all put together, I'll have enough money to buy a new screen and not have to feel bad about wasting my current one, even though I just recently got it.
Again Machinehead, always to the rescue. Thanks!
While the headunit may have touch screen, as far as I know there's no way to control a PC with a head unit like that. A lilliput or xenarc touchscreen connect via USB for that function.
You're welcome. I just hope it's helpful enough. I've made plenty of mistakes with my own setup.
I suppose it's not all bad news. I mean for the same price as the head unit I have now, I can get a larger screen, with better resolution, but without the radio (not counting the idea of an XM Radio, but with my whole music selection in my car, who would want to listen to the radio anyway?)
The fun part will be fitting it into a '99 Grand AM.![]()
