That system should do fine.
Touch screen works by a USB cable that is separate from the VGA cable. You plug it in, load the drivers and there's some calibration software that comes with it.
I have been reading about carputers for the last 3 or 4 months and finally had enough money to throw together a reasonable system. However I wish I had asked everybody on here if I was going the correct route before ordering, but better late then never.
I am still awaiting all of the equipment so I should have no trouble returning anything if it doesnt seem like it will work out.
System that I have purchased
Shuttle kpc k45
intel C430 1.8Ghz
2Gb of kingston mem
Lilliput EBY701-NP/C/T touch screen monitor
I believe I'll have to use a power inverter to run the system or change the power supply in the shuttle. Im really not sure if that is possible but from what I've been reading it would produce better results, correct me if I'm wrong.
I only plan on running Linux ICE with added gps software. so the processor and memory shouldn't have any problem handling that correct?
I also don't understand the touch screen connection. Will there be any added wiring needed to utilize the touch screen or is that handled with the vga?
I'm sorry that I'm such a noob to all of this and asking so many questuns and I'm sure that there are many other things that I am over looking. Any insight would be very helpful. Thank you

Thats really a relief to hear haha
So am I right to go with the power inverter or should I try to buy a new power supply for the shuttle?
Again I'm sorry for so many questions I just want to have most of this covered before I begin my installation.
well for now that is going to have to go on the back burner. I was looking at an online wattage calculator last night that showed how large of a power supply you need and according to what I would be running my psu needs to be 200+ watts and I'm pretty sure that I've read somewhere that the Shuttle only has a 100w psu.
What exactly is drawing all that power? I'm unfamiliar with that processor but fail to see why it would be so power hungry, no extra gfx card or anything?
I ran the system again last night on another calculator and it said I'd be pulling 84w while gaming so I believe the 100w psu that comes with the shuttle will suffice. I am expecting the rest of my components today so I'll throw it together and test my luck. If need be I assume I can just swap out the psu with something more powerful. I'm sorry if I seem stupid but this is my first experience with any type of computer building. Thank you for all the help and I'll add an update once it's all assemled.
You should ditch the power supply that ships with the shuttle and invest in an M2-ATX, they're not expensive and will save a lot of headaches.
The suggestion for the M2ATX isn't just about power requirements.
In any computer, a DC-DC power supply is superior to an inverter for a number of reasons, the most important being electrical efficiency.
Another option that you might be keen on is the Opus 150w that is specifically designed to fit in a Shuttle case. It will give you all the power you need and allow you to keep your Shuttle case, if you so desire.
