Go high end radio. It will do everything you need without the headaches.
I am intrested in a complete system. the only thing is I want to have gps, bluetooth (maybe), wi-fi (maybe to update but really don't no if this is going to be needed) and a system that has a fast to decent boot speed. if I was to purchase from the mp3car store which stage would that be.
To give you a better understanding of what I am looking for is nothing were I can watch a hd or blu ray movie in my car or play games like that needs a large video card.
If and when I get this car pc i plan on using the nav, playing music thats on the hdd and ipod, using a back up cam, watching music videos, looking at pics stored on the hdd, and maybe watching some internet clips that I have imported via flash drive.
I think that is about it. nothing to out the ordinary I hope.

Take my advice: Do not try to build a system that includes EVERY feature. Start with the basics, build it to a bug free state, and THEN add on.
I agree completly with Will Albers, I recently sold my carpc setup after my 04 Durango was totaled by a idiot who ran a stop sign. I had to go to the wrecking yard and it took me like 3 hours to remove everything and I couldn't even get my screen out so I lost alot of money on the deal. So I decided that it was just to much of a headache to replace so I installed a Kenwood DDX812 in my 07 300 and I am happier it starts up in around 15 seconds and contrary to the comment above I have a customized start screen and a customized backround so that has been tackled. I also have my choice of music sources cd,dvd, usb pen drive, ipod (I have an Iphone so this is cool) and finally a tuner that works and if I need anything else like hd radio or satelite radio I can expand I didn't need gps I had a stand alone unit, But for you you said you wanted gps I would go with the Kenwood DNX8120

customized startup, radio that actually works, no running wires to power the spaekers everything you need in a quick install. Untill they come out with a all in one carpc that works and is affordable I will stick with the setup I have now.
well I really want to do a carpc because its different. I have had my share of of indash radios and seeing them in other peoples cars and at stores. in a way I also want that wow factor of telling peole I have a computer inside my car too.
after reading a lot of the forms on here it doesn't seem that challenging to put a computer in your car. I already have a screen and lots of ideas of if I want to do a laptop or just buy a pc like the ones in the mp3car store.
I really want to say thank you to all with suggestions and comments about this.
You guys don't no how much help you have given me. In these 2 days of chatting with ya'll I have learned so much info about car pc's
Thank You![]()
It is a wow factor but only if you have everything up and running but a good headunit can have a wow factor 2 since my above install 3 of my friends have went with the same install.
I don't think I could ever go with a stand-alone CarPC-like unit. It would have to be a CarPC for me. It seems like it would be less hassle to upgrade, I can pop in a new hdd with all my music already transferred to it, I can cruise the interwebs and grab those new tracks I'm dying to hear from Rhapsody or Yahoo Music, I can create/print/email invoices without having to wait for my laptop to boot up, I can find the nearest/cheapest gas station with just a few clicks, I get email alerts, I can play games on it while waiting for someone, I can switch navigation programs if iGuidance becomes too annoying, I can...
has anyone heard of a cable that goes from vga to rca (red, white, and yellow) I have a screen but it is not touchscreen.
You won't get one, you will need to put a VGA to NTSC/PAL converter in between.
