help needed motherboard wont fire up

im very new to all this and building my first pc, i have fitted my 12v psu and motherboard, i wanted to make sure these were working before i went any further, the psu definately works, but no life at the motherboard, should there be a connection from the psu to the motherboard that switches it on, apart from the main 20wire connector. here is a diagram

Is the PSU to MB on/off switch connected? i don't see it..

Also, does it need the P4 wire to be connected?

Yes, there should. Theres a header on your PSU that is equivalent to pressing the "ON" button on a computer case. When the PSU gets power, it knows to "press" that switch which turns your computer on.

It is usually a pair of pins sticking up. Short of having a diagram for the MB, follow the wires coming from the computer's on/off switch; you can also tap into those wires.

    Read the mothrboard's user manual.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

    Sorry, but that's decidedly weak.
You can download the manual for damn near any motherboard from the manufacturer's website.
All you have to do is look, and you'll find what you need.

Hold tight, somebody is going to search the web, download the manual, read it, and make a special trip to connect the wire. Just hold on!
