Wondering if I can get two "screens" in one

I've got a Pyle touchscreen with viewable dimensions of 9.5"x6". I'd like to mount it vertically so that I have what is pretty close to two normal 7" screens mounted on top of one another. Like this:

Readily admitting my noobishness... is it at all possible to basically have RR running while I have the other app (T5suite in this instance) running on the other half of the screen? If so, how?

    Thanks in advance.

Well there are a few issues I can see with this setup.
The first one being that the screen divided into 2 like that would actually give you two 7.6" touch screens that are 6"w by 4.75"h. The problem is that depending on the monitors resolution and input type, it might look really crappy. If it isn't using a DVI or VGA connection, it will look really bad. If you could post a link to the product that would help.
The second would be that you would need a video card that would support rotating, if you are using on-board there is a good chance it might not.

Now you should be able to have both of the apps running at the same time, just set RR to only use the dimensions of the top half and position the other app's window at the bottom half of the screen, theorhetically, it could work.

I don't remember the nomenclature of the Pyle touchscreen but it is VGA output. I've also forgotten the video card I'm using but it's not onboard... I do remember that it's an ATI Radeon with 128mb on board. Not brand new but a solid card.

    Thanks for the help.

VGA output is different than VGA input.
VGA output means it can display VGA resolution, 640x480.
VGA input means that it accepts a VGA signal from a PC, usually in the form a 15-pin DSUB connector (your standard-issue VGA port on a PC).

Without knowing the specific model touchscreen, nobody will be able to say definitively whether your unit has VGA input.

Next, the screen mock-up you show wouldn't work well, if at all. The screens from the two apps are setup to run at 800x480 minimum. the skins for RR don't scale down, as far as I'm aware.
Even if the apps could scale down, the controls would be so tiny that touch countrol would be difficult, if not impossible, ESPECIALLY while driving. The whole point of touchscreen control is to make navigation possible and reasonably safe while driving.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

You know DP, I just love it when you venture to offer information on RR.

RR CAN scale up or down to almost any resolution, whether it is usable depends on the complexity of the skin and the quality of the monitor.

    Ok, thanks for the input.

Speaking of input... It is a Pyle PLHR9TSB and it actually has VGA input and USB output for the touchscreen.

It probably doesn't matter but would there be a frontend more suitable for what I am trying to do?

And, FWIW, I've been lurking here for quite a while and am only asking questions after I've tried to do these things on my own with the available information on the site. I belong to, and moderate, several forums and I get just as annoyed as the next guy when questions are asked that could have easily been answered with a quick search.

According to this and the other sites at the top of the Google results for that model, the resolution of that display is 480x234. At that resolution, what you want to do would likely look quite bad, as people generally run carputers with at least 800x480 screens. If your video output can support multiple displays, that would likely look much better.

Also, the lower radio screen looks like the Dot-Matrix skin for Centrafuse, dunno if RR has something similar

Yea at that resolution, it would be totally unusable no matter what application you choose. You can't do anything about the number of pixels the monitor can display. If you got a monitor that had a decent resolution you might be able to do something like you suggested, but not at 480x234. Thats a horrible resolution to try and run RR normally let alone tallscreen with another app.

Ok... So, basically I would be well served to return the Pyle touchscreen? I admit that I bought it when the whole car pc idea was maybe an hour old in my head. I didn't do good research at all.

Or, is there a different frontend that won't look terrible at that resolution? It may help for me to mention that this is in a convertible and I'm probably not going to be needing a lot of detail on the frontend anyway.

Yea i would probably just return that if you can, I think my cell has approximately the same resolution as that monitor. Just think about that stretched out to a 9" touchscreen. Everything is gonna look really blurry. No matter what front end you use there is still the same amount of pixels.
