    zero knowledge.... 05 WRX

    I have 2005 WRX.
i would like to go the route of carputer.
i know enough to get me in trouble

this is everything i would like to do:
    1. Listen to music
    2. Watch Movies
    3. View/upload photos and videos
    4. Navigation (GPS)
    5. Sirius Radio Ready/XM Radio Ready
    6. Composite (2-3) A/V Input
    7. Composite (2) A/V output
    8. Internet access

    Would hope this is possible….
    1. Boost Gauge (PSi)
    2. Voltage Gauge(10~15V)
    3. Temperature Gauge (Fahrenheit)
    4. Pressure Gauge (PSI)
    5. Exhaust Gas Temp. Gauge (Fahrenheit)
    6. Boost control
    7. Turbo timer display and adjustment
    8. Throttle Controller
    9. Engine Management
    10. Engine tracking

i would like for it be a touch screen, usb hub, dvd drive, nice sized hd, and any nice suggestion anyone can make. very open
pretty handy as far as wiring, u give me a diagram with the needed parts i can do it.....

    i was wondering:
    1. Is a HU necessary
    2. Waht would you estimate for cost
    3. the exact size for my din/display

sorry if this is to noobish

There are almost 100 WRX threads in the Show Off Your Project forum. Start there, read and learn. Most of what you want to do is possible. Look in the Engine Management forum for OBDII or, better, SSM protocol.

    To answer you questions,
    1. HU is not necessary - I have just my carpc and amp.
    2. Depends on how far you want to take it but you should be able to put together a system < $1K.
    3. You have a double-DIN dash opening, which can fit a 7 inch touch screen display nicely. I believe there is a WRX kit in the mp3car store.

    1. if the composite outputs are for touchscreens dont bother. You have to go vga or it'll be useless.

    2. As far as the inputs, there are some video capture cards out there but if this is for anything like a game console its impossible - there will be too much lag to play. If it was for this just plug em into your screen.

Also, I personally went with the laptop approach because you dont have to wait for the carputer to come out of hibernate every time you start the car because it can sit in standby on its battery.
Acer Netbook with 160hdd and 1.60 Ghtz atom - to be installed

you can have a normal computer sit on standby...but it will be on your car battery

but I would recommend browsing through the Show Off Your Project Section (as stated before), the FAQ, and even the Worklogs to get more ideas and to see what you're getting into.
