Matt, you could do it. That is pretty big for a carputer, but if it fits where you need it to go, get-r-done. If Im not mistaken, you will need an inverter for that model.
I have a touchscreen monitor, http://www.superwarehouse.com/3M_Mic...-227/p/1488304, there is the link to specs and image of it.
I was wondering if that would be ok to use in my truck, and how difficult it would be to wire or could I just use a converter to plug it into the lighter plug?
Thanks,
Matt

I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone hasn't met me yet .
An inverter to be able to plug it into the cig lighter?
Also, is it a bad idea to use a DC/AC inverter for the monitor and computer?
I am somewhat worried I might run into power problems, since I also have subs hooked up to my battery, so I don't really know how much is too much for the car.
Wouldn't be my choice for a monitor in the car. That monitor will force you to use an inverter (i didn't see anywhere where it said DC) and then you will have to figure-out how to control it. You can use the same inverter for the computer but again, controlling the turn-on/off of the computer and converter would require some thought.
Not a good choice. (IMO)
Yea, it def wasnt my first choice of monitor, just had it around and thought why not.
If I do decide to use it, wouldnt I be able to use a switch on the inverter, so keep from ignition thumps? It probably is more then I would know how to do as I have never had a carputer, but computers are my major.
Ill keep lookin into it, thanks for the advice.
Since you say you already have the monitor, does it have a power brick, like a laptop? Or just a regular 3-prong cord like a desktop computer? If it has a power brick, then you're good to go, no inverter needed, you can power it from your computer's power supply.
I see Newegg has this monitor, too. They say it uses 12VDC for power, but no mention of an external brick.
Well I thought I had it, some guy was going to sell it to me for cheap. I sent him an email askin for power supply info/pics. He then tells me he listed it on ebay. But I am happy after reading these comments, and it was bulky just there at the time. What about something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...lenotsupported
Thanks for the help, sorry I dont know much about the whole power issues.
Lol, its in a Chevy S10 and I was thinkin about mounting it on the floor between the two front seets, angled up at me and build a custom box for it.
It doesnt really have to be big, just figured the bigger the better.
What am I actually looking for then power wise? Thats my problem, I just dont know what to look for besides touchscreen monitors in general.
If you can tell me the volts/watts to look for, then I could search the right path.
Thanks for the help
EDIT:
So something along these lines:
Monitor
Your looking for something that can run on 12V input like any other car accessories. Most of the touchscreens folks here are using come with a "car converter" i.e. a plug that would work in the lighter socket.... best to cut that plug and hard wire to a switched, regulated (and fused) power supply
