    First CarPC Build

    Hey Everyone,
New to the forums here (obviously ) and looking for some constructive critisism as i begin my first carpc build

I previously had a motorized lcd clarion dvd player in my 94 Mazda MX6 but soon after purchasing that, the lack of features bothered me (other things could be added with purchasing $100s worth of other cenet compatible clarion accessories but after paying $1200 for the deck, it seemed too much of a ripoff). Now here i am, 4 years later ready to do something about it lol.

I just recently sold the car and purchased an 06 Ford f150 FX4 subercab which gives me huge amounts of space to play around with compared to the car along with a double din dash.

What I am planning on buying (and have ordered some already) for the build is:

    2GB PC5300 DDR2
    SiRF III waterproof gps
    VoomPC-2
    Intel D945GCLF2 with Atom 330
    80GB 2.5" 5400 SataII HD
    Generic usb WiFi (Wireless G)
    M3-ATX
    Double DIN lilliput EBY701 7"
4CH 300W Motorcycle amplifier for the speakers

A friend of mine (who is also starting a build soon) along with myself are going to be working on building a custom front end using c-sharp (C#) and WPF using VS2008 and Microsoft Expression Blends, but this will end up being a long term project and i will probably use a prebuilt front end such as roadrunner in the meantime.

The whole build for my truck should be under $1000 CAD after all shipping costs from the states to canada plus that takes into account adding 1 10" sub and a second amp, plus building the box to fit under the rear seats in the truck.

Alright, so now that I have done that "short" introduction (lol), any constructive critism, tips, or anything else that you guys can input for a first time builder would be appreciated!

Looking forward to getting to know you all,
    -Badams

Dont know if you have XM in the truck already or are planning to keep your regular head unit, but just fyi you can also add XM through the pc with an XM tuner (controlled through either a serial port with the cable from Mitchjs (search here) or a usb XM tuner.

Other than that, I have that motherboard. It works great, very stable and reliable.
PDP1170/TRS80/Atari800XL/Amiga500/286/486/P2/P4/C2D still a newb (but an old newb, been doing this a while) working my way up to "Complete Newb"

No XM in the truck but thats ok. Im not really a fan of the satellite radio stuff. My only concern is the heat in the summer time. Ive heard there is enough room behind the factory head unit to fit a small child so i was hoping to mount the pc back there behind the dash, im just concerned about the heat. Anyone know what the Atom dual cores max operating temp is?
