i have been looking into a car pc for some time. i have a 2004 mazda rx8 with the factory fitted sat nav. so i have a screen that pops up and a dvd rom in the back. but there are a few issues that i am struggling with :-
how do i get power to it?
what spec to use?
how much to spend?
what screen to use?
i have herd some people say that the open/tilt buttons wont work with any other screen apart from mazdas?
what cables do i need?
can i get software to check the ecu for problems?
i have some but not a lot of pc know how. any help or suggestion would be great.
thanks i had a quick look the other night. i shall look again tho.
i dont want to buy it all and find it doesnt work!
Then plan everything out beforehand.
Set up the PC to test everything on your bench before you install it in the car.
Those are the two things that you can do to help insure a functional install in your car.
right i think i have got my set up
motherboard interl d945sgclf2 mini-itx
power supply m2-atx
case voom pc 2
2 gb of ddr2 667mhz ram

the only thing i am trying to find now is a sat nav set up and a user face.

everyone likes something different--so look in the gps section, and the front end section.
if you live outside of the usa, make sure that whatever navigation program that you pick has support for your area/country-- i know there are some programs that lack map data in certain areas (i don't use navigation on my carputer, so i can't help you much beyond that.)
