Hi everyone, I have been browsing on mp3car for a week now and I have a few questions about a few things concerning a carputer.
I now know that centrafuse can play AM FM radio but what I cant work out is how you get the signal to the carpc. Is there a usb adapter for the car aerial, or do you need a whole new pc aerial and you no longer use the factory one?
Do I need another program for GPS or will centrafuse run the maps?
I spose what I am saying is, is centrafuse just a program that acts as a sortcut to the GPS software or is it built in to the software?
If this is the case can centrafuse take maps from other GPS software or do you need maps created only for centrafuse?
Is there an adapter you can buy for playback of digital radio?
In Australia Digital radio has just been launched. I dont know how specific I can be but all our radio stations where broadcasting in the old analog style, and still are aswell as the digital (high definition) broadcast. What this means is perfect reception without fuzz, and radio can be paused, rewound etc.
The Visteon or Directed HD module has been really popular for the carPC. I don't know if it would be compatible with the HD radio signal you get though and I seriously doubt it would allow you to rewind stop etc. It does HD and analog here in the states. The only issue is finding one as they are no longer made. They used to be super cheap (around $20US) but the prices have gone up. I got mine for around $35 or so. Also to use them with the carPC you need Mitch's cable
another place you can look for info is the centrafuse site-- i believe that they have a listing page that shows the approved products that work with their front end.
Thanks for your replys guys you have been really helpful.
In Australia the digital radio uses DAB+, which is not what Visteon or Directed HD compatible with at the moment.

Centrafuse's Australia map......hmmmm......just received another email from them, they cut the price again. It is 2006 map though. Strongly advise you to read more reviews about Centrafuse's Australia map before buying.
