    Can you turn you Alpine (IVA-D106) Multimedia Head unit into a Car Pc??

    Im a noob.. and I just found out that I can turn my car into a PC.. I just spent $800 on a Alpine Single Din Head Unit and I was wondering if I can turn it into a PC with its AUX functions... If I can has anyone done this b4, and how would you do it?

    there are some people that have hacked the internal software and modified it to work(mostly in pioneers), but most of the decks are not able to do this.

    hacking a HU is no where near easy, and there is a good posiblity that it could get turned into a expensive paper weight. and even if you do manage to hack it enough to run computer programs, it will still not be very fast, or be able to do everything a computer will do.

    if you are interested in starting a car computer, it would be better to sell it. there are many limitations in using a alpine or any other name brand product that could cause you to scrap the whole idea later anways---screen resolution might not support vga type signals, and keeping all of the decks features might be impossible--you could loose the display, or audio drivers, because they are not supported by the new os, and no one has made any...
