Why do you need a capacitor? Get your batteries, alternator, and wiring up to par, and solve your issues from the get-go.
Play with it, 'til it's broke.

in the audio realm, capacitors are like putting duct tape on a leaky boat--it fixes it, but only for a while...

take your time, setup your system properly, and you should not need a capacitor.

i always thought the capacators were just so you could run your system while ur car was off and not kill ur battery, or alternator trying to keep up

    no.

a capacitor less than 40 farad will not have any audible effect in the sub frequencies.

it may (as suggested) act as a bandaid for a bigger problem, and 'smooth out' some of the peaks in power demand, but overall will create a larger load on your battery and alternator - resulting in less playing time before the battery dies, and possible a shorter life for the alternator.

    Great to read! Love it!
High quality batteries and if possible the amp right next to it is the way to go!

Nope. A cap stores and quickly releases energy which makes it ideal for supplying high current for very short periods of time. Like when your amps are hitting a bass note. The cap charges in between the beats and helps supplement the current supply when the audio system needs more power than the alternator can supply.

    It's a band-aid for an undersized alternator.
