Laptop screen interface

Hi,

I was thinking about using a laptop screen in a set-up.
Is it possible to interface the laptop screen with my computer?

What would be required etc?

Any information/help given would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about using the laptop screen with the laptop that it came out of and simply separating them and dash mounting the screen, or are you referring to using a laptop screen with another system all together?

Hi guys,

I Was wanting to use the screen with a seperate computer system not the original laptop.

So.... If i was to find out the pinout of the screen ribbon cable, could i connect up a VGA cable to it?

The simple answer? No.

The more complicated answer? You MIGHT be able to buy a controller board for your screen, which will run you $200-$300... at that point you might as well buy a monitor. The laptop has the controller integrated into the motherboard... so if you just remove the screen then you don't have anything to run it. It's not VGA. A good number of them are LVDS, but there are also quite a few that run weird proprietary controllers.
