new setup, need help looking over it

ok, i have a computer laying around i just mounted in my trunk. i also have an inverter i will use. im thinking of mounting the inverter in my center console, and running the power wire from there to the trunk. ill plug in the inverter to the + and - behind my head unit.

i will wire a start button for the computer somewhere near the dash

i then will have a touchscreen monitor with vga to the computer in the trunk, and ideally two non touchscreen monitors for the visors (a clone of the touchscreen so all three show same picture)

    the questions i have are:
what good visor monitors are there, i only see ones with rca not vga or such outputs

when i turn the car off, wont power to the computer instantly go away? so i need to shutdown (or put in hibernate) my computer before i turn the engine off?

    Sounds good so far...
Although a DC-DC PSU is a better option than an inverter for a lot of reasons.

That's something you'll have to fabricate yourself.
Either that or deal with lower-quality composite video signal.

Time for a trip through the FAQs. Link is in my signature.
There are DC-DC PSUs that have a startup/shutdown controller that handle this chore. It will allow the PC time to enter hibernation (or do a full shut down, if you prefer) before completely cutting power.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

i would recomemnd putting the invertor as close to the computer as physically possible. Do not use the power wires from the radio. Run your own power and ground wires.

not sure what car it is going in, but most of the cars that i have looked at only use something like 18 gauge wire, and a 10 amp fuse for the radio-- which will create a huge risk of either constantly blowing the fuse, or, if you ever decided to make the fuse bigger, fire.

most cars electrical systems are not designed for any power loads over what ever the factory equipment will draw. and a inverter will likely draw more than a car radio.

just remember, that using a inverter is taking multiple steps to do the same thing that a dc-dc psu will do-- using a inverter makes 12 volt dc-110 ac, and then the ac-dc computer psu drops it back down to regulated 12 volt dc(and also 5 volt, and 3.3 volt dc regulated.)

a dc-dc psu will regulate the the 12 volt car lines, so you can cut out a lot of extra steps that could cause noise problems(there are threads all over about reducing inverter noise).

i understand that some members are on a tight budget, or are trying to buy as few parts as possible, and use their computer graveyard stuff, and in that respect, an inverter will work, it is just not the best option.

i mean like every singe visor monitor i see is only rca output. did you mean make a cable that is rca to vga?

also about the inverter, i already have a PSU and everything from the build. i dont want to drop alot of money when the inverter was only 30.
