Pretty much what I thought too. I went back and followed some of those Slashgear links and what I got out of it was kind of a mixed bag. The newer Displaylink drivers seem to support Directx 9 and 10 and talk about normal Youtube and non-HD videos as not being a problem. At the same time, all the reviewers seem to think the overall display performance was pretty so-so. good for email, twitter and whatnot, but that's about it.

I guess if you have a need, this type of display would probably fill the bill. Samsung and Buffalo offer similar products with somewhat higher quality screens for (I think) around the same price.

On mine, I'm sure it's just for power, but with a touchscreen it could possibly be for both. Probably not though.

The performance is great. I was suprised. It's 800x480, and probably 18 bit. Fullscreen on the main monitor, the CPU shows 9-20% and 20-30% on the USB monitor. No slowdowns or or choppy video either. It's smooth. That's with a 2.4 GHz Core2 Duo though.

    Might

I am slowly getting a parts list for my car pc (just bought a hosue so thats taking priority)

When I saw this iw as thinking abotu using this for commands and a second screen for playback of videos and such. So basically the monitor wiykd be in the dash and this would be back some where its was easy to reach. Then have that display play lists, menu's etc and take input from the touch screen

    Think it might work?

You could save money and improve performance by just using one of these:

    The odd thing is

I haven't looked at prices in a while but a while ago a touch screen was rather expensive but I found some non touch screens that weren't so if I got a touch screen like this and a high quality that wasn't a touch I was thinking that it might be better in the long run...now I haven't researched prices in some time but I was just thinking about this last night before bed so...

i just found this and it looks better for what i want- http://www.amazon.com/9IN-LCD-1024X6...5234963&sr=8-1

its 9" with a better resolution, and it claims to only need one usb port (it has two hookups in case 1 isnt enough).

Well heck. I just tried unplugging the second plug and it still works. They are probably wired in parallel so it still could be more than 500mA. The USB extender is going to take power as well, so it may go over the limit. I tried putting a 4 port hub inline and it went on and off a few times. Manually powered off and back on, and it turned on but the screen was messed up.

got it in today. works great! it does install automatically in win7, no cd needed. i think it does use online update to get the driver though.

watching HD satellite tv on it right now, it does come across full resolution and quality. the menu in windows media center flickers a little bit, and the video overall if you really look for it you can sort of see a warbly flickering to it (reminds me of old analog film, only much much less noticeable). overall though for the most part it looks exactly like a dvi connection. and i hate to say this, but text on this screen is leaps and bounds better then the lilliput eby701.

also, the 9" size and resolution is WAY better then the 7" lilliput screens we use. its a damn shame they dont make 9" lilliput screens... maybe soon enough.

when i first plugged it in too, the screen will install and configure automatically... it starts in 'extended' mode but its not hard to change it to 'duplicate' from there. what im saying is, this should work fine as a service monitor for troubled pc's.

the mimo would be nice because its touchscreen, but if you dont need that then i think this screen has no real flaws either. i wish i had one of these years ago!

it doesnt show the bios of course, so as a primary monitor it is a bit limited. as a secondary screen though, its great. it does take a bit of cpu power to run though, even on my 4ghz i3 system it creates a noticeable lag in high end games. seems to use about 10% cpu on my htpc... i havent tried it in the car yet. for videos and anything 2d though, it seems almost just the same as dvi.
