    Hey! New guy here!

    Hey guys,

I'll be browsing this site more in the future, since i'm planning on doing a car PC build!

So I'm not new to forums, just this one, i drive an 06 legacy GT, and planning on doing a car PC set-up!

So I might have some questions!

    Thanks
    JP

    Soo I've got a couple questions;

    1. Are these full car PC any good? If not, which one do you recommend?
    http://store.mp3car.com/Budget_Bundl..._p/ccc-204.htm
    or
    http://store.mp3car.com/Mp3Car_Custo..._p/ccc-122.htm
    or
    ebay carpc's?

    2. I've done some research, but right now my main concern is making the PC boot up and shutdown on its own when i start/stop the car. With the search I did, I've seen some controllers, but how exactly do they work? Say i want to let the car warm up a bit on colder days, and make the carpc boot up after 5-10mins of warming up?

    3. If i get a touchscreen LCD screen, can I operate the carpc from the touchscreen or i'll have to get a wireless mouse/keyboard?

Those are the questions i have for now, so I'll be doing more research, but if anyone has a quick answer's to my questions it would be great!

    Thanks
    JP

Yes those are fine systems. The first system you linked will have better cooling, which is important in the summer time with the PC in the hot trunk.

One thing to keep in mind, most hard drives don't like to operate at temperatures below freezing, which might be a problem in winter time. Solid state disks (SSDs) don't have that problem, but are more expensive. They are also immune to shock.

Thanks for the reply! I wanted to get a controller to make sure the car is warmed up before powering everything on!

As far as SSD HDD, i think i'll just hold on for now! So the 2 posted above are good system, now a good question of finding a good screen!

    Thanks again

So i was able to find this setup, and shipping isnt too bad to Canada, can anyone tell me if its good, or not? I'll be using the carPC to do some logging for my car, and music and video's and most likely GPS feature!

So will this carPC work for my needs:
    http://www.mo-co-so.com/Car-PC-with-...mcs-bb-lf2.htm

And the next question is, what is all that bunch of wires for the power, most likely some of them is for power of the PC, but the rest?
    this:

Anyways, I'll be adding a SSD HDD and i think I should be good to go, what else is needed?

    Thanks

for screens, try to stay away from flipout/motorized single din vga screens, from what i have read, they all have their own common problems(mostly, data cables breaking from the screen moving, and cheap plastic gears breaking under normal use)

lilliput and zenarc are the 2 most common brands, but others have had good success with off branded vga monitors doing well also.

I was able to find a Extreme Environment Seagate 40GB HDD for a good price, now just wondering if the above system is good! I'll most likely be adding a fan for cooling!
