so I re-thought everything and started rebuilding my iPad in the dash itself. Things are starting to come together now.
I modded the original bezel so the iPad could slide in from the top of the dash. I also had to move my climate controls to the center console I previously made. The ipad charges when it is docked and as soon as I get my old head unit re-wired I should have excellent sound.
Looks pretty good. Only thing I do not like is how a corner of the ipad is so obviously sticking out. I guess thats a more intensive fix since thats caused by the contour of the dash.
I have been debating that corner. It certainly makes it nice and easy to slide the ipad out rather that pushing up on the glass. I made and aluminum bezel for that area which would help to hide the ipads top but I simply haven't decided.
I also thought about lowering the ipads housing but it literally is at the bottom of the factory dash.
I liked the iPad on the console better. IMHO I'd rather have the iPad (or some support for it) sticking out from the bottom than from the top.
it was so low the when I went to use it I really had to take my eyes off the road and literally look down. This way I can just glance over. It is much safer for me in or on the dash.
I will figure out some solution for that corner poking out. My aluminum bezel may be the ticket. I will keep you guys posted.
