Question How to Power/connect TFT screen from a In-dash Head Unit ?? Help!!

    Hey guys,

I have been a member of this forum for almost a year, after doing quite a bit of research i finally decide to install a CarPc in my car, to save some dollars i decided to rip out a TFT screen from a faulty head unit from my bro's car. following are some of the shoots of the screen, sorry for the crappy quality of pics.

    Front View

    Rear View

    View from TOP

    Flat Flexible Cable

now as you can see in the last pic that screen has flat flexible cable attached to it, my question is "how am i supposed to power it and give video input?"

i have tried the search feature on this forum as well as google but maybe i am not using right keywords, please

*warning* most of my post is based on my own opinion, i really don't have too much to back it up, but some members like to prove me wrong, so maybe it will make someone else post

i believe that in the single din screens like that, the screen portion that you have yanked is what i would call the 'dumb' portion-- none of that portion of the unit is smart enough to know what to do with a input-- the other portion of the unit should control what the screen displays.

so you might be able to power it up, but i doubt that you will be able to get it to properly display a video signal(though you are welcome to prove me wrong ).

because screens like this are built specifically for one brand, and most people that use those units wouldn't pull them apart to troubleshoot them, or find the pinouts of the cables, they would just buy a new unit, so technical documentation for the pin-outs will be very hard, if not impossible to find...

the easiest thing to do would be to pull the unit apart, in hopes that they carefully labeled each pin, or that you can determine what the cables go to and easily reverse engineer the pins, and video stuff... i know it is now exactly easy, or quick, but that is about the only options...

yup, that is my unprofessional opinion, and being that no-one else chimed in yet, it looks like it might be your only option...(short of buying a new vga screen)

otherwise, if you can't figure this one out, you might be able to pick up a used headrest screen(or any screen that accepts a composite input) for cheap on ebay, and then combine it with a vga-to-composite converter--in my last search for one, they usually run about $20-180, depending on model and features--though i really have no clue what makes the $180 one better than the $20 one...

none of those screens will be able to be used as a touch screen, unless you add your own touch screen overlay, and controller board, but should get the setup going for cheap if you run stuck...
