help picking a high end LCD

    Hi all.....

been working towards doing a PC install in my project for about a year, and am finally getting to the point where I need to decide on hardware... the LCD is the first thing I need to mock up....

here are a couple pics so you can see what I'm working with/building... the vehicle is a fully caged, 1 ton Blazer on 38's.. yup, an offroad rig.. front and rear winches, onboard welder and air, yada, yada....

this is the exposed cage/fiberglass panel center console that the LCD is going in.....

the PC will be going in the back section....

and the LCD will be going in the front panel....

and here's a couple more to give you an idea of the overall console build.....

the back PC section will be filtered on one sidewall, and exhaust fans on the other... probably a window in the front panel...

i try not to spare any expense on components, within reason.... so when I started shopping LCD's awhile back I wanted top of the line, as best as I can get stuff... I really want to run a 10" in the panel... it's tight, but I can make it work...

    here's a shot of that panel with a mock up of a 10.2, Zenarc's 1020 TSV....

I have read the review on it in the review section... and tho the "bulkyness" of the unit concerns me, i think i can make it fit... what really concerns me are potential glare issues with the large screen and 300 NIT....

so I've been torn between that and a possibly easier to see, brighter, smaller model like the 702TSV...

here's how that size mocked up...

can someone suggest THE best 10" screen out today? I'd be willing to go upwards of 5 to $700 to get something really killer.... are there any viable brand options other than Zenarc and Lilliput?

thanks for your patience and any insight you can give me.... hopefully I can contribute to the forum in the future.... my background is more fab/fiberglass/wrenching type stuff than tech, but I'm learning...

    Ryoken,
I just have the EBY701, so no fancy dancy touchscreen for me! However, I did find this thread with some reviews on a Lilliput 10.1" touchscreen. I also found this 10.4" Lilliput on Amazon with 2 reviews.

Wish I had something better I could help you out with! Do get your worklog on here though, with plenty of pictures! Maybe this extra little bump will help get someone to chime in with experience on a 10" touchscreen.

    thanks, I appreciate the effort...

I know most people, especially from reading threads, are usually pretty budget orientated... or size-limited... making my questions a little unusual... I'm just trying to get a feel for if I'm on the right track or not.... the LCD market seems VERY limited so far from my shopping.. not alot of offerings it seems....

I'm one of those "do it right the first time" types... well, at least on this project... if i decide I want the best, thats what I want and I'll find the cash.. or just save a bit longer.... I'll be doing the same with the other PC hardware, best I can get at the time...

as to the rig, and photos, be careful what you ask for... I have a build thread over on CK5 with 2500 replies, 300,000 views and probably 1000 pics.. I do lots of "how to's" write-ups, etc... i probably have almost 2000 hr's in the truck in the last 16 months..... everything's custom, floor, cab supports/sliders, sectioned fenders, etc..

here's a few more to give an idea of the overall rig..... the green you see thruout the build is zinc chromate primer...

winch bumper.. the aluminum skidplate/fairlead is off here..

    overhead console....

I run a full custom electrical system.. no fuse block, breaker panel in the glovebox..

here's the heat diverter I built this weekend.....

oh, if i had the time, space, and money... i would love to do a k-5 blazer or bronco build--everytime i see a k-5 for sale, i have a very hard time not buying it. i think that the k-5's/broncos are a little better off road capable than the newer chevy/ford offerings, and am not too crazy about jeeps--i see jeeps as the offroad civic equivelant--everyone and their brother seems to have one.

otherwise, maybe, you could look towards industrial screens? as you noted most of the installs here are more budget oriented, so i am not completely sure that most of these screen would be able to take the messy conditions that offroad rigs are generally thrown into full throttle

well, every forum has smartarses apparently.. guess you missed the "within reason" and $700 part... for the record, I'd bet the farm I probably make less money than most in here..

that certainly is a sweet looking LCD, and answers the question if I was looking at the top of the line, apparently far from it......
