    Dealership install

I just brought a new Prius 2010 Trim III without NAV.

I'd like to install a carputer. It would probably go in where the radio unit is. Do you know if the dealership does this kind of work and how much it would cost?

A dealership won't put anything in unless it's something they sell you.
That means a factory nav system, which is overpriced as it is. The installation will only add to that price.

You might try a car audio shop, but most won't do a PC. They are more likely to help with any wiring and audio upgrades you may want than the whole PC install.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I'm in DC. Do you know any good quality shops that will do it (VA, MD, DC region)? It's a brand new car and I don't want anyone ripping out the dash carelessly...so hopefully its a shop with high reviews? etc.

a dealer would never touch a car computer--unless toyota decides to make one..

the best way to find out might be to start calling shops to see if they would be willing to install a carputer. the local shops near me usually don't advertise everything they sell/install, but are usually willing to work with you.

Might not be what you want to hear, but as far as I know there are not any shops near DC doing car PCs. Your best bet would probably be to come to an area meet and get some ideas or see if you can convince the local guys work work with you on one.

Years ago I went to a local shop and asked how much for a carpc on my M35? It would range from 3K to 7K, using the stock screen via vga-to-composite (3k just that screen, 7k would add focal speakers, JL amps/sub with enclosure and two headrest screens). Computer would be a via C7 or something like that. Extra screens would involve fabrication, then it would get much more than that.

My own contraption ended up costing a fraction of all that, with a much more powerful computer and I learned a lot to boot.

I looked at their site and I don't see them installing carputers as a service? If I take my Prius there, do they have to order the parts?

they do custom work, its not going to be on the website simply because you cant really quote something like that over the phone. And i'm all but positive they would have to order parts. Most of the stuff we use isnt over the counter type stuff.
