oh and batteries are no concern...I will be running at least 2 optima yellow tops if not 3....I was thinking of devoting one battery to the pc alone...some people say that thats a good way to go?.?

You should check this if you go with the m-audio card.

Also, you should speak with _Dejan_, he has the same card.
    Check my worklog:
Corsa + Atom + Gentoo Linux + 9" capacitive touchscreen

Lord of the boards: DFI CP100-NRM

"Or you can try Ubuntu, but than don't tell everyone you are using linux,
because it's just a secret unreleased prebeta of Windows 3829" :P

a great link to getting started in computer audio processing:
    http://www.mp3car.com/wiki/index.php...g_via_Software

the vst plugins all take cpu power to run, some more than others(depending on what they are doing and the coding of the program), so audio processing can be extremely taxing on a system.

for instance, my system uses a dual core pentium(something like a 5300 series...)-- i run 5 crossovers(sub/tweet get their own, mid is setup as bandpass), 1-32 band eq, and 2 instances of audio level adjustment. i am currently running at about 10% cpu usage, while the same setup on a atom ran at 30-50%, and the audio would sometimes stutter (this might have been a buffer issue, but was still related to overworking the atom..).

for battery usage, i am using a single large capacity yellow top in my car, and can run the battery down to 10v in about 2 hours with the engine off...

i keep a battery charger on my car when ever i need to change my setup, or update teh system..

    A bit overkill maybe
I think you can just go with 1-2 optima, and buy an efficient full range class d digital amp, examples:
    -Alpine PDX series
-JL Audio HD or XD series
    -Pioneer PRS-D series

The PC's draw is minimal, compared to the amps, so I say one battery for the PC+car,
one battery for the audio if you go with a 2-yellow-top setup

see my post above yours . if the op is interested in leaving the system on at shows, even 2 batteries might not be enough (at least if he runs anything more than a atom).

though, for a show car, i think it is worth the extra expense to have at least 2 batteries-- one for accessories, and a starting battery. that way, you can drain your auxiliary battery(s) down without worrying if you are going to need jumper cables to get out of the show.

Yes, he might need 2 or more batteries, but I think the way is: first reduce the draw to minimum,
and when there's no other way, add an other battery.

Adding a battery without a power plan is like turning up the heating, when your windows are still down

Also, if your system draws more than your alternator could serve, that's a problem
