Car PC and Driver Information Center (DIC)

I did quite a bit of research on this topic. I am getting a Pontiac G6 GTP - which has a DIC embedded into the radio.

If you want to install an aftermarket radio you can buy a Metra kit, which allows you to keep the DIC and install a single DIN head unit. If you want to install a double din HU, you must purchase the Metra kit, hack it up and relocate it to the glove box or center console.

I want to install a Double DIN screen, and was wondering if there is any way to get the Car PC to read and display this information, instead of relocating the DIN. Anybody know of any possible routes?

    Thanks a lot!

You're likely on your own here.
I am reasonably certain there is no plug-n-play solution for what you want, but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

Your DIC (an acronym that makes my inner 12 year old giggle) just displays data. The trick is getting access to that data and representing it on a screen.
Assuming I'm correct about the lack of an "easy button" type solution, you'll need to figure out which wires in the harness carry that data, then determine how the data is transmitted, what protocols are used, and how the data is formatted.
Once you have all that, you'll need to make an adapter or cable to the PC and write software to interpret the raw data and display it on the screen for you.

    Think you're up to it?
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

If I had the means and knowledge to do so - then I would be up to it. LOL - but sadly I do not. =(

    Thanks for your reply.

I remember reading something along those lines somewhere, but it really doesn't mean anything to me. Thanks though! =)
