Considering most screens used in a car max out at 800x480 resolution, there's not much need to ever TRY to play back 720p video.
I'm aware im jumping ahead of myself here however i was wondering if touchscreen overlays would be compatible with operating systems such as android. Im not even aware if android is compatible (yet) with the Via EPIA px10000g but if not then I will have to use Windows 7 which brings me to my second question. The Via EPIA px10000g is compatible with the minimum specs of Windows 7 and I am aware that some people have used incredibly low powered systems with Windows 7 however I am wondering about the video playback. Can you estimate how 720p playback will be or as I expect it to be poor, how about enhanced video? (480p etc).
Thanks

Ah sorry, forgot to mention. It would be great if it could act as a kind of movie player when I am off camping etc. Thanks for the quick reply.
The C7 is pretty limited here... There are far better platforms if media playback is your goal (The Ion Platform is pretty much built around media playback). Mini-ITX, so a bit bigger than that Pico board, but the cost is definatly a lot lower, and it CAN play back HD video (Ion systems can usually JUST eek out full BluRay playback, once you get the right decoders and such set up)
Of course, for the money, if you are just looking to use it for media playback, there are other stand-alone media playback devices that are cheaper than that pico board, and much more suited to the task (the SageTV STX-HD200 can play back ANY media from an attached USB harddrive - I'm sure there are others also, jsut that's the one I'm familiar with)

Would have been a great idea 2 weeks ago hehe. Managed to pick up an exdemo version of the pico for £50. Ok ive given up on the 720p after spending hours searching for low end pc's that play it and nothing coming even near what I have. Any idea how basic video playback would be on Win 7? I would be playing it with bare minimums and the specs are the minimum requirements for win7.
Thanks.
SD MPEG2 should have no problem at all.. SD H.264 would probably work OK, but not sure till you give it a shot. The GPU on that board does NO video work at all, so it's up to the CPU to do all the decompression... and the C7 is really lacking in horsepower for such things.

Ah ok, great help thanks. +REP.
Android is not a generic distribution of Linux. It's an embedded OS, so unless you know embedded Linux, its not even worth trying.
Also, I can't imagine windows7 running very well on a VIA system.

Yup im pretty much relying on the x86 android group for it and ive seen videos of 800mhz cpus with 512mb ram running it fine so fingers crossed ...
well, even the x86 android group are still treating it like an embedded OS. They are developing it for a specific piece of hardware, with very strict hardware configuration (Asus EEEpc i believe).
