Will this monitor work or my project?

    Hello,

I am planning to run a windows 7 machine and have the monitor up front. Can anyone tell me if this monitor will work with this project? It should be able to display the login screen and beyond, if possible BIOS too.

http://store.mp3car.com/ProductDetai...ctCode=MON-116 is what I am looking at. It's perfect because it only requires a USB input to control it. Will this screen function as a primary display and allow me to use the touchscreen to click things in the os?

    Thanks!

I personally wouldnt use it as a primary monitor for the following reasons

    1. a little dim to be a primary monitor
    2. USB controlled means no display until windows is loaded
    3. The drivers, while working, have bugs
    4. The narrow bezel doesnt really have much to "grab" when fabricating
    5. The metal stand has to be open to plug a usb cable in

It makes for a good secondary monitor though. I'd love to embed 2 of these in the back of my front seats for the kids

That screen I posted turns out to not be touchscreen at all.

Would this one be a better choice?

I was thinking of taking the monitor apart and putting the front face infront and the back in back of the dash and then getting longer screws and having the dash be sandwiched in between the front and back face of the casing. Would this be a good solution to mounting this monitor without having to make a custom case? I measured the working space I have with my dash and it seems that this would fit in nicely in a double DIN fashion.

    Thanks.

if your going to take it apart anyways, get one of the dd bybyte kits it will fit any double din opening--for $20-30

there is also the preinstalled dd 629 monitor in the mp3car store, but they want $100 extra for that.

the bonus is that they are providing a warranty for it, the downside is that it is $70 more then doing it yourself--but if the screen craps out during the mod, you are out the $200 for the screen..

The thing is is that the space I'm going use is two separate single din's. This means I have to cut a horizontal separator piece that is part of the dash. I don't think one of these bybyte kits would work because the slots would be spread out too far since there is that separator in there, unless?

Should I go out and measure the exact dimensions of the opening and post here? Or it doesnt and this kit will allow me install in any double din type opening?

    Thanks again!

    ahh, i see the dilema.

in that case, it might work better to fab your own mounting solution..
