learn who the judges are, and what they like to see on cars, and outfit yours with those features?

get your family to judge?

judge it yourself?

quit worrying about what other people think of your car, and build it into something you can be personally proud of? (this is what i am doing!!)

car contests are a great place for new ideas, and camaraderie (i have been mistaken as a news photographer with as many pics as i take of the weird, or different features of cars..), but they can also be a money pit-- sometimes it is too easy to get caught up in attempting to win as many as possible, but the reality is that every contest has different judges with different tastes.. the most consistent trait of the cars i have seen win the most are the ones that the owners are very proud of.. do it your way, and see who follows..

And learn the competition rules - eg, if you enter as modified or original.

Sometimes a great original with mods is better entered as an original with points deducted for the non original bits. That's if your "original" condition is better than others - especially compared to competing against the mods with their 7-figure expenditures.
I assumed mine was a mod whereas it would have won as an original. But that was the last comp I ever participated in. Though I did get best mod(ernisation)s as the manufacturer would have done it. (D'oh!)

I was told that nowadays, if you ain't an organiser or on the committee, you don't get a prize.

I'm not a big Chevy guy, or a Corvette guy, although in your body style 72 is my fav, I like the flat backs. Heck, I'm not even a big stock classic guy. I'd say go for it, planning is a big part and if you plan it out right, I bet you could come up with an install that looks classy and maybe even compliments the interior.

Get a separate bezel, fab your touchscreen to that(keep the original for future re-installation when you are ready to sell the car). Build the rest of your PC(including the power source) into a self contained removable case that will go in the trunk or under the seat!
Or use the bezel and build a custom iPad dock with it. In this case the only external wires needed would be only to power the iPad dock, since the iPad is a complete PC unit by itself.

Ok here's a update I found some info on the RAM mount so has anyone ever used this and see how it works with an passenger I actually like the look of the dock it gives me the police car system feel. I was thinking of getting one with a 13" screen maybe some kind of netbook with an ssd to avoid any skipping and stuff. Any clues or suggestions? I can't find too much info on them working on F body's or classic corvettes with there kind of small interior. Also since the car battery is behind the driver seat in the 75 vette is there still a way to make it turn on with a turn of a key? Or off? I do know it's laptop I'm just looking for suggestions I think this is gonna be an awesome car esspically the interior without it having this glove compartments and that useless passenger airbag... So there a lot of legroom esspcally for the passenger. Thanks and some pics of ram mounts would be great too from the passenger side would be nice

i think your best bet is to start looking around the laptop section. i prefer desktop hardware, so i'm not very well up to date on all the mobile stuff..

checked man but i didnt see too many that had any info on actuall laptop mounts. do people not like them for some reason?

I have been running a laptop for almost 2 years with no significant issues. The biggest thing is if you want better than "OK" audio, you are resigned to using a USB sound card but really, that has not been a problem for me. In your instance, it certainly would give you a compact unobtrusive install for the Vet. Like mentioned above, use a custom or replacement bezel for the screen and "Bob's your uncle" your done and you haven't hacked the bajeezes out of the dash.

well im not trying to use it in dash I was just curious about the laptop mount was what i was going for. and is the sound really that bad going into an Aux jack? i actually like the dash because its kind of low and out of the way and its gonna be tough making a new dash but I got my idea from the police cruisers i mean they have the space and i like the look I was thinking of a netbook or chromebook maybe you can get one for about 200 and the netbook mount is like 70 from amazon i will try to find a link.
