Post A New Direction (Samsung Galaxy Tab)

I installed my CarPC and got it running, which is great. I only have a few qualms with it. First is that sometimes the PC will not go into hibernate after the vehicle stops, and has to reboot which takes 30-40 seconds. Second is, I couldn't really find a front end that did what I was looking for. I wanted a clean, simple layout that was touch screen friendly. I really like what the full screen iTunes had, with the album covers you could scroll through. Only problem there was that iTunes doesn't fully fit on the screen with the resolution it is. (iTunes told me it wasn't compatible with the low res)

Then I saw the Samsung Galaxy Tab and had an epiphany. Why not use the Galaxy Tab as a front end. It has the touch screen, the clean layout, and android OS.

If I do this, I only would have a few issues.

Mainly, how to convert the single 3.5mm audio output to 4.1. I have two amps, first is a 4 channel that covers left/right front and left/right rear, and the second for my kicker sub.

Also, if I did this, does anyone know if it is possible to, use a network drive for my media library.

By this, I mean, install a router that runs when the car is running that has a usb port for a network HD. Then get an external enclosure with a 120 GB SSD.

Just a bunch of thoughts that are running through my head.

I've done the network thing with an Apple Time Capsule. You can use the TC's hard drive to store the data or you can connect an external drive to the USB port on the TC. It has a WiFi router inside and will let you see the drive as a network drive.

I did something a little different by using a Sheeva plug to run mediatomb on the TC network and serve up the media to any devices that join the network using upnp.

Another thought crossed my mind. The output of the SGT, pretty sure that it won't be pre-amp, or would it be possible to convert it via the OS. Google has yet to reveal any promising results.

    So, essentially two questions...

    1) Is it possible to turn the 3.5 headphone jack to a pre-amp line out?

    2) Is there a better way to split the signal between a 4 channel amp and a sub amp other than a 3.5 to RCA Y-adapter, followed by a RCA to RCA Y-adapter on each, followed again by a RCA to RCA Y-adapter on one left and one right? (Such as a 3.5 to.... 6 RCA? (3L,3R))

    1) You mean with this?

    2) Using the same thing as (1)? Read the posts.

^ it works well for me

but i think you are over complicating this. low level audio is low level audio-- while the exact volume can be slightly different, it is all the same..

if you were to use the on-screen volume control of the galaxy, just split up the headphone jack to each amp, and set the amps crossover..

there is really only a couple of options:
    either a bunch of y-adapters,
    a head unit,
or a external eq, or external crossover (i use a clarion mcd360 for my aux input).

the eq, or crossover will still require multiple rca connections, just in a little prettier look then the y-adapters..
