    New member, exploring possibilities

    Hi
I am beginning the search for a complete solution to control my FJ Cruiser. I am working with someone, who I believe is on this forum, that is developing a big piece of my system. So far it's going to be a 2.8 quad core , wth 8 gigs ram, amd video dual monitor support, touchscreen to replace hu, sound blaster FX-I
fm tuner, nav, blu tooth, mobile internet, fusion brain, and more stuff as it gets figured out.
Some other considerations are steering wheel controls, ham radio, obdII, accessory function and may be security.
The other big piece will be integration with my already installed, 8 Camera , Baja Camera System, custom created , installed by myself and Total Vision Products.
The system includes 2 digital switchers, with the ability to run 8 cameras each, 4 custom mounted screens overhead, quad channel dvr, and a few wires to run everything.
I have a lot to learn about making this all work seamlessly, but it should be fun.
I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am lurking and will chime in when I find a topic I need more info on .
    thanks
    Don

    Welcome!

It would be great if you could post some pictures of your ride. I would be very interested in the camera system - but I suspect a ready made system would be too costly for my Sequoia, even with 4 cameras or so, I googled total vision products and the site was very disappointing - no pictures, videos, or specs!

But I'd love to see this camera system working. Where are they? pedals, suspensions, roof and what not?

BTW, the specs you're going for look overkill, I would only question the sound blaster fx-i (lot's of driver issues and sound quality wise there are better options) - unless the aim is gaming (due to EAX), I see no reason why an on-board/usb tascam unit wouldn't be more appropriate. Steering wheel control you have to check CarPc Joycon EX, just search this forum.

    Cheers,

    RH.

Edit: duh, after googling baja camera system...I found this.

I agree with the website being disappointing. I great guy doing cool stuff but just not good on updating his website. I may have to dig a little deeper into the soundblaster issues. I may need a different direction. thanks for that tip
Camera systems don't have to be too pricey. Especially if your willing to do the work. It just depends on your requirements.
I can post a few pics to give you an idea of what I have so far.
This is after the completed tear down and install

    In process

Nice FJ! I wanted a TRD w/the 6MT before I decided to get the truck I have an convert it to a manual

Welcome aboard, but I'm curious as to what you do with all those cameras? And what's up w/the lightbulb on the dashboard?

Part of this upgrade includes completely removing all of the center panel of the overhead console. Those functions will be controlled by the computer. I will replace it with another touch screen that will also function as navigation on and off-road . The biggest challenge with be to get the digital switchers (currently operated at the touch pads on the overhead console) to integrate with the computer, so I can control it all, by one of the touch screens. We just have to have the engineer for Total Vision get that done.

Very cool ride and impressive pics. Can you tell me more about the cameras you're using, possibly a link? How are they at night or when the sun sits low? Do they have auto focus, adjustable iris, or it's remote controlled?

I'm heading with the Sequoia to Pismo Beach this Spring Break and hopefully I can have time for some cool pics in the dunes/beach. Stock all season tires though, so I won't get crazy with stunts, plus it's a truck, not a baja special.

On the Sequoia I currently have this Tascam external usb unit installed (Tascam USB-100). Great quality and sound level, much better than the tablet's stock headphone out output. On the FX, I use the stock soundcard line out+JL audio CL-RLC pre-amps into the stock headunit. Works very well for me, and it's simple.

Thanks for the pics, I'm looking at them carefully, impressive stuff.

The camera's are used for self spotting while rock crawling and trail video.
The lightbulb was a gag mod I put on the dash, for an event I had. Every one loved it and It just kinda stuck. Everyone asks about it.
I have camera's over the front tires on the front bumper, a rear facing axle camera, rear departure, or back up camera. 2 forward facing cameras with different view fields, on the roof, and a rear facing view camera, on the roof.
Next will be a pan and tilt camera to cover 180 degrees .

The cameras arent hi tech yet. This was the start of the concept. They are simple view. They aren't ir or auto focus, but that is to follow. You best bet for getting video of pismo is a go pro hd
they are awesome and give 1080p res. I actually use one for specific video 110 degree field on highest res and 180 degree on normal res
they come with a waterproof case and all kinds of mounting doo dads

    back to your original post:

are you saying you want everything, including the cctv stuff to integrate with the carpc?

with the exception of the quad core processor, those carpc specs are well and above what anyone uses here--even hijack-- and he is doing a 6-7 station setup..--check his build log--here

for audio, internet, nav, radio, bluetooth, audio, and dual monitor support most dual core atom boards will do the job with only 2gb of ram, though the atom is a little slow for some uses..

many motherboards will do multiple video outputs using onboard chipsets-- and many of these have special graphic chipsets to ensure smooth video..

not to mention, add-on cards and off-road trucks don't always get along..

imo, i don't believe that there is any use for any more then 4gb of ram in-car.. the most active device you appear to want to use is a fb, and that doesn't take much processing power..

you didn't mention your hdd selection, but with your vehicle style, a ssd is going to be the best option to prevent issues later.

btw, how were you planning to power the whole carpc setup?
