Renault Clio mk2 2000 setup with constraints

    Hi there,
I've been hoovering up the information from this forum for a number of months so I decided to join today.
I've just ordered parts for my first build but have a constraint on the mounting of the system... It can't cause any noticible permanent damage to the car, i.e. I can't chop up the dash. I'm not going to keep this car for more than another 6 months or so and it's not worth a whole lot at the moment, never mind with a 7 inch hole where the air-con vents used to be!

He's a brief run through of my setup:

Screen Lilliput 619GL-70NP/C/T it's old, but the best I could afford

    Motherboard-Gigabyte Intel Atom D525 NM10 DDR3 mITX With 2 GB of DDR3 RAM

    A no-name 160W PSU

An assortment of dongles BT, WiFi etc

I'm planning on fabricating my own case and mounting it in the boot

    Now, the questions....

Will I have too much interference or signal loss by running a VGA cable the length of the car?
Can anyone recommend a method to hide the screen (other than on the visors) so that I dont need to disconnect it and take it with me for fear of my car being broken into- I was thinking of making some form of cradle.
Can you recommend a very cheap and cheerful bluetooth GPS antenna?

    Thanks for the info everyone!

the only one i can answer is that as long as you use a decent quality vga cable, you should not have any problems.

    Thanks for the input Soundman!
I decided to fit the box in the footwell of the passenger seat, it's fully hidden behind the carpet while still having adequate ventilation. Because the main requirement is not to cause and permanent damage to the car, i removed the sleeve to enable the head unit to fit snugly and inserted a steel plate with a hole drilled to enable me to use a thumb screw to mount and dismount the monitor.
I have the audio feeding into the aux in on my head unit because I know nothing about amplifiers and since it's a single din dash, there was no reason to remove my beloved stereo!
I originally had everything wired to the cigarette lighter socket as I had no instructions on how to wire my cheap PSU properly but I figured out the pins and was delighted to find a spare (I s**t you not) constant positive cable just sitting at the back of the head unit wrapped in a bit of insulation tape so it was game on for permanent but removable wiring with a couple of spades.
The case of the computer is, in fact, the most disgustingly ugly in existence. It's made from an aftershave presentation box as seen here I chose this because it was in the house and had a nice little circle on the front for a case fan. I then got very excited and hacked it asunder with a stanley knife and made a mess of it... 4 years of mechanical engineering and I have insulted every one of my lecturers with my quick fix job!

Anyway, the rig has been removed as the ball of s**t car is going into the vets in the morning to find out if she'll live for another few months so no pictures.. Not that I have any real desire to show either car or ridiculous install to anyone, nevermind on a international forum but I might stick up a few during the week.

As always, thanks for all the advice and help guys!

    lol!

that's the story of my car... we all know better, but when your in the middle of the project, and "just want it done" the project goes a little different direction

i beleive i have seen a couple of renault clio setups before, but it wouldn't hurt to post a couple pics for future hobbyists--even if they have "this is how to not install a carpc" across them..
