    Planning my first carPC

Ok, I have been tweaking and tinkering with a bunch of frontends recently, and I have settled on Centrafuse. It seems to have the best support and best looking frontend. (although if anyone has any other suggestions, i am open to them). The system I am thinking of running is a shuttle sb51g. For those who do not want to google it, its one of those little cube pcs. Mine has a 3.06Ghz P4 w/ HT, 2 gigs of ram, and a little ati 9250 gpu. I currently have it running on XP pro, but I would like it to boot up a little faster. Does anyone have any recommendations as to speeding it up? (also i am planning on using one of the double din touch screens sold in the mp3car store, so if you have any experience, i would like to hear your thoughts.) Thanks.

    1. touch screen: there are multiple variations of touch screens-- there is the 701, 629, 669, and then there is also a transflective version of the 669 available-- all available in the dd case.. i own a 629, a low brightness transflective 669, and a high brightness, capacitive-touch, transflective 669..

if you can afford the transflective, i highly recommend it. but otherwise, i have been decently happy with my 629-- sunlight-readability stinks, but it keeps working with zero issues..

    2. bootup times: there has got to be hundreds of threads on this-- from everything from OS tweaks to bios tweaks, and also many times, upgrading to a ssd hdd will be a very large improvement.

The transreflective is a bit outside my budget. But I am planning on the high brightness model. I have tweaked and tinkered with my system, and it boots xp and Centrafuse in about 45 seconds. I don't think I can get much faster than that. What sort of issues did you run into with the touch screens. I heard they integrate the usb control with the hdmi port.

as far as issues with the touch screen, really the only issue i have is that the resistive touch overlay gets in the way of clearly reading the display in bright sunlight(i have a convertible)..

the part about the usb being integrated is partially correct. the usb integrated with the hdmi port on the monitor is correct, but requires the breakout cable that they send along-- one side with hdmi, and the other with hdmi+usb 'whip'. i don't believe there is a way to get the usb touch screen working through a normal hdmi cable plugged directly into a pc. i believe you need to always use this whip to extract the usb signals from the cable.
