Planning my first CarPC in my 2006 Altima SER

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I decided on going with a DSATX, that way I'll be ready if I ever want to upgrade in the future, and from reading through all the PSU's manuals that one has all the features I could ever imagine needing. Not worth skimping out on one of the most important parts

All I have left to do is figure out what I'm going to do for a case (buy one - would have to find one that I like/will fit everything with good cooling or build one - which would be smarter to fit my specific application but is tougher to do)

being that you are going with the dsatx, there are not any car cases that will work-- it is just too big.. but some home-theater-type mini-itx cases might work..

Why not just have the power supply external? I'm thinking only theoretically here. Is it more complex than I assume?

Okay, thank you for helping me narrow my search, I think I might have found a case, but just need to do some more measurements and stuff.

Also, after checking out some threads on the forums here, building a custom case isn't ruled out at all.

I could do that, and it probably would be easier, but personally I like the look of everything being in one case. I wanna go for the sleeker look, plus to not have to run the cables between cases (ATX connector, etc) seems as it would be easier. Also, I am trying to keep this to as small a footprint as possible, just for storage/looks reasons. I know I have to be sure to have adequate cooling for the PSU/PC (I am a big PC modder, currently on a watercooled system, so I know the dynamics of that and will factor it into whatever case I go with).

Ah, good man, sticking to your standards like that. My aim is to keep the entire computer (except hard drive array) inside my dash. So I understand when you want to set yourself a standard and stick to it.

Another thing to keep in mind if a case is problematic for you to find: companies like Danger Den can build custom acrylic cases. So if you need a little more room for the PSU, consider having that done, as you can specify dimensions.

I have the same problem with the psu. So I cut some acrylic and made this.
