Planning phase of my carPC! 5th Gen Maxima

For a few years now, I've wanted to build a carPC because I'm a nerd on the inside through and through - no doubt about that. Sure, it would be easy to buy a doubledin and call it a day, but where is the fun in that!? Plus - the carpc will leave thieves disappointed for sure!

Anyway, I have all the parts on the list below already purchased, being fabricated, or in the mail. Started buying things a little over a year ago, and this is what I've amassed so far.

For now, I plan on keeping the stock bose system and upgrading the speakers - and I already have a sub setup in my trunk so I'm somewhat familiar with car electronics.

    Gigabyte ma78gm-s2hp Microcenter 20.61
    512 x 2 DDR2 PC2 5400 N/A 0
    Thermal Paste Microcenter 3.31
Apache 92MM CPU Cooler Microcenter 9.67
    Slimline 160GB Hard Drive MSI U100 0
    AMD Athlon X2 5000+ eBay 39.99
    Kenwood KAC 6202 eBay 34
    Lilliput Screen ebay 37
    Lilliput Breakout Cable eBay 17
    Lilliput Main Cable eBay 16
    Case eBay 22
    M2-Atx mp3car 72
    double din kit/stock bose integration/Soundcard amazon 55
    main lcd frame bybyte 24

Total spent 350 give or take

And yes, you read that right! I paid $37 for my lilliput screen! The only issue with the screen was that an inductor on the pcb board was burnt out. I will be replacing that this week, and will hopefully have a picture thread in the work log forum very very soon.

I have a couple of questions: 1 - what is the recommended way for getting the 3.5mm inputs on my sound card to hook up to the male RCAs on my subwoofer and voice amplifier? I wish I had the budget to get a sound card with RCA outputs .. but I ain't made of money!

2- the M2-ATX is limited in connectors (obviously). I didn't see a obvious way of powering hard drives from the power supply in the images I've seen around the web ... maybe I'm missing something here, but how is this sort of thing usually done?

3- the breakout cable for my lilliput has the following:

on one end, there is a VGA cable, and a USB cable (for touch screen I'm assuming) and on the other end is the following: mini vga-like cable, white female RCA, black power cable, red female RCA, yellow female RCA. I'm assuming all of the female RCAs are for the rear view camera auto-switch functionality -- right? or do I have the wrong breakout cable?

the 2nd part looks like this:

Thank you!! Looking forward to responses

    1 - 3.5mm to RCA L/R cable.

2 - The M2 has molex connectors for Hard drives. At worst, you may need a SATA power adapter.

3 - I can't say for certain, but I believe so, depending on Lilliput model.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Awesome parts list, can't wait to see this in action. Post some pics of the install process as well, as I believe our cars are pretty similar!

Good luck on everything and awesome deals! I also noticed you purchased some parts in Microcenter, are you from NJ or NY?

    As for the questions,

    What he said ^^

1 - 3.5 mm Mini -> RCA jacks (monoprice.com is a good place for cables)
2 - The M series' power supplies do have Molex connectors, if you need Molex -> SATA power adapters, check out Monoprice
3 - You got me here... sorry, lol I'm also new to the CarPC world

Our cars are similar, except yours has an extra .5L of displacement I'm from NY, but I make the trip out to the Microcenter in Westbury. Some great deals there!

I just need to get my case modded properly for airflow, and the touchscreen repaired, and I should be good to go
