Thread: First time...

It's all up to you really. For the screen most of us would recommend getting something transflective but they're usually pretty F'n exspensive. Surly enough to pull the carputer out of the $1000 budget. Now, beside for the screen what kind of stuff are you expecting this thing to do. Simple music playback shouldn't require a very high end carputer but if you want something serious like a multi-zone pc then the minimum requirements with your hardware will usually change drastically. Give us some more details on what you expect out of it and you could get some better information. and remember, search search search

Yea, unfortunately, at that budget, the anti-glare screens will eat up at least half your budget. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, because you could likely build the system with the remaining $500 and upgrade from there in the future.

Also, I wouldn't recommend going for a multi-zone setup for your first one (not that you even mentioned it). Very difficult compared to a single screen build. If you have specific questions, just ask, I can help you out.

Yeah thats the best of all final fantasies. I would really like to play it but my game disk is so badly scratched that it freezes up on the first boss

That sucks. I traded an old head unit a while back for a copy of the greatest hits version. Kept that thing sparkling clean and scratch free for years specifically so I could play it. Try http://gamedude.com/contact.html and see if they will ship you a copy. I can't find the price because whatever encodes their PDF price lists seems bugged. That shop has been around for 20+ years. Used to sell my games there when I was a kid.

I think my cousin has it for the PC and doesn't play it anymore so I could probably borrow it from him.

I just found out the other day that it was released on PC. Wonder if they cleaned up the graphics at all.
