CarPC front end software - which one that meet my requirements?

    Hi
I am newbie to this and excited to build my own CarPC, however after trying out a few interfaces I realise it may not be an easy task (software-wise)

My requirements: (basically what is already there in regular car headunits, but expanded)

    1) regular folder structure, just like in windows

I have tried Centrafuse and pretty much like it, but completely disgusted by iPod type file browsing (by Genre, artist etc), what I want is just a regular windows or car headunit file and folder browsing. Have tried MediaEngine and that's exactly what I want with regards to file structure, but unfortunately it lacks lots of other features

    2) a good Equaliser, where I could adjust the frequencies myself (I mean, what frequency I am adjusting with specific slider, so I can have f.e. 60Hz slider and 73 HZ slider and 80hz slider etc). I guess there is no interface that meets this criteria, so if I decide to go CarPc, I need at least a couple bands EQ

    3) SUBWOOFER volume + CUT OFF FREQUENCY, or maybe even subwoofer EQ - does this kind of interface exist?

    4) Wifi to copy my music files from my turned on PC at home, over my WiFi, while I am on my driveway (too lazy to disconnect USB drive, go home, connect it there, then after a couple of hours later when I drive off I realise I forgot my USB device with me lol)

The rest, like sat nav, DVD etc is just a bonus, what I would be using 99% of time is just the above.

Looks like basic requirements (expanded regular car headunit functions) , but can't find interface that matches them? Most concentrate on those flashy DVDs, internets, bluetooths etc

Take a look at RideRunner/RoadRunner and desgin your own front end. You can do everything you described, but there will be a learning curve.

Simplistic doesn't sell. The frontends that offer the simplistic features and not all the flash don't really last long around here unfortunately. There are a few still hanging around though. I got tired of trying to weed through features to get what I want (Pretty much the same list as yours) and just wrote my own. I highly suggest you do that if you have any coding experience.

That being said, RideRunner might have some skins that do what you need, check it out. It uses winamp for playlists, I think one of the media plugins allows for folder style playlists.

while i know of a very expensive way of doing this(search for audiomulch), either of those things are not going to be very easy to find in a carpc(#3 i believe is available on some sound cards, though, no idea which ones). in terms of cost and ease-of-use, i think your better off installing a 1/2din eq with those options.
