Allright boys and girls. I've been wanting to write this for a long time and since I now have everything in hand to build out my Truckputer, I felt that the time is right. So let me give you a bit of a backstory on this...
My wife and I have wanted a truck for a long time so when the time came to trade in our Honda Odessy Touring Edition, I jumped at the chance to get back into a truck. Our Honda was loaded to the gills and the wife got aweful used to the indash nav and touch screen, so one of the requiments for the new truck was to have factory navigation. Searching high and low for the truck we wanted, it was next to impossible to find one with nav since the tsunami destroyed the plant that made Ford factory nav units. So we found the truck we really wanted (without nav...) and the dealer sold us on tacking on $2800 to the cost and they will order a factory nav unit and have it installed, so I figured what the hell. And so starts my factory nav drama. About a month after we got the truck, I got the call that the factory nav was in and to come out and get it installed. I had Veterans day off, so that was the perfect day to get it installed. By the way, the dealer is in Baton Rouge, LA and I live near New Orleans, so it was like 1.5 hrs away. I get there and the owner of the aftermarket shop that ford contracted to shows me what they got for me. IT WAS NOT THE F-150 Nav Unit!!! I was ****ed! They ordered me the 7 inch nav unit that is in expeditions and 2010 F-150s, not the 9 Inch in current F-150s. So after going to the dealership and reaming out the guy who sold me the car, they said they could get me the 9 inch one for another $2,000!!! WTF!!! So, since I was already there, I figured what the hell, lets just install the damn thing and be done with it. So I go back to the shop and they start opening up the dash and they realize that I did not have the sony sound system, with amplifier, like the dealer said when they ordered the Nav unit. So I am told that the unit will not work without being re-programmed and they have to send it off to California to get re-programed and will probably take another month. At that point, I went back to the dealership and demanded my money back. Screw the factory nav. After a lot of back and forth with those guys, I finally got my check for $2800.
I started researching aftermarket navigation units and just was not happy with anything I came across. I didn't like the user interfaces or the restrictions on what it can and can't do. Then I stumbled on mp3car.com and started reading about all the great builds going on and thought to myself, I have a BS in computer Science and a Masters in Systems Engineering. I can do this!
So then came the planning and procuring. I attached pictures of everything I got for the Truckputer. I ran into a bit of a snag with the bezel... Metra makes a double din bezel with the matching wood grain, but on the top where the hazard and airbag warning is, they had two holes instead of the one that is on my dash. So I looked high and low with no luck finding a bezel with the matching woodgrain in the aftermarket world so off to Ford I went. I ordered the double din bezel from them for about $130. Well, stupid me, I didn't realize that Ford uses the Nav unit for climate control and has a different button scheme than what I have (no dials). So that didn't work. I then broke down and ordered a match for the bezel that I already have in the truck so I can cut on it and still be able to restore the truck to factory. In the pictures, you can see the tape where I marked it to cut. I will post pictures after the install to show how it came out. So far, I got one of the hardest parts done (in my opinion of course), which is running power from the engine compartment to the amp location and computer locations. I cut a small hole in a rubber stopper to feed the wires through, so I didn't have to drill into my new truck, but man was that a pain in the a$$. Anyways, let me know what you think!

Well, I got started, sidetracked, started again, then it rained, then sidetracked again, and hopefully I will get everything put together either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. I got most of the hard stuff done. I have the 2 power cables routed from the battery to the CPU and the Amp. I have the amp mounted and have replaced all 4 speakers. I also cut out the back of the glove box so the CPU fits in there like a Jem. All I have to finish is running audio wires from the cpu to the amp and the amp to the audio harness in the dash. Since I am using the PAC MS-FRD1 to maintain sync functionality, the audio inputs have to go from the amp back to that harness.
The PAC MS-FRD1 does offer a couple of nice unexpected advantages. I ordered the Joycon steering wheel remote interface device, but was fixing to return it because I really didn't want to risk hacking the wires under my dash. I did that once with a Durango back in the day and I got it to work, but man was that a pain in the A$$. Well, the PAC MS-FRD1 places the steering wheel button wire on a silver platter on it's harness. So, I am taking it back out of the box I was fixin to ship and going to give that a whirl. Another thing that the PAC MS-FRD1 does is it supplies an auxilary power 12V line. Now, I had a question about that and wanted to see what you all thought. I have the following items in my dash that will require power, besides the CPU:
MJS-SC-C1 USB Interface for Sirius Satalite Radio
So my question is, can I run all three from the same 12V aux power line that comes out of the PAC MS-FRD1? Any suggestions on power managment?
Well, I got it installed and let me tell you. It looks freaking sweet!!! I'll post some pictures of it later, but to be honest, it almost looks like it came that way from the factory! I couldn't be happier with it... at least how it looks.
I still have a bit of trouble shooting to deal with, including how to get audio input from 4 places that feed into sterio plugs? So far, I can only get audio really working from the aux input line on my mother board. Here is the link to the motherboard specs sheet if it helps any:
So once I figure that out, I can start working on getting the GPS to work and deal with a bunch of bugs I am experienceing with Centrafuse. Can someone tell me why the pause button doesn't work? Also, the track forward button gives an error then fast forwards the song. So weird. Anyways, I'll close off here. Please, if you can help I would greatly appreciate it!

I would suggest asking your CF questions over at the CF forums, you will likely get better help for CF specific questions there. The screen fits great, good job!
On power management, I would suggest running a min. 8ga., preferably 4ga. wire (fused clsoe to battery) directly from the battery to the dash area and install a distro block there. You can then individually fuse each component if you want and it will give you room for more expansion later. Cause you know your just going to keep adding stuff , don't you?

Thanks for the input. I am on the CF forum as well and have found a couple of answers. I was just venting a little bit. I could not be happier with my first fab job! Now to pull everything out and do some wire managment.
Nice install sackarou! Can you please tell me the name of the chrome trim you installed and where you got it?
Thanks, jblick! The chrome is 1/8 inch Custom Chrome Flexible Exterior Molding made by 3M. I picked it up at a local AutoZone, so I'm sure you will have no problems finding it. The package has 20 feet of chrome trim, so you have plenty to play with. I'm actually thinking of re-doing the trim with 45 degree cuts instead of straight cuts at the corners. I think that will make it look just a little more professional.
