    2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab 4x4 Diesel...at a crossroads.

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab 4x4 Diesel with a "budget" system running off of a LOC out of my stock head unit. The CD player in the stock head unit took a dump a while ago. It hasn't been a big deal since I use my iPhone/iPad and built in Sirius for music. I've been thinking of putting in navigation of some sort and and would love to have a hard drive full of lossless audio and movies and OBDII readings.

I was planning on building a CarPC but with the availability of Droid tablets and improvement of off the shelf double din nav/DVD units if those would be better ways to go? I'd love to hear the positives and negatives of CarPC vs Tablet installs. Size isn't really an issue as my Ram has a ton of places to install a PC.

Also, there are a few "older" Dodge Ram installs on here with somewhat outdated information. Are there any newer Dodge Ram installs? I'd love to see some install pics.

I can't say much on tablets (I've never used one nor really want one). But, I do browse the ipad and android front end threads that pop up once in a while. From what I've read, the tablet os's aren't that viable in the car compared to a pc frontend designed for the bigger buttons and whatnot, but they are incredibly stable and functional if you're not into tinkering with hardware/software.

PC's are the way for me and plenty of others here as well. You have control over what hardware, software, and any future upgrades you want to do. They are incredibly versatile if you are into it, and if done right, can be tons more powerful than a tablet, in functional software and hardware.

Ultimately, it's up to you and what's right for you and can fit your budget. PC's can run a lot for the car enviroment, with sunlight readable touch screens running 500+ alone if you can't stand sun glare compared to the normal non-transflectives still running average around 150ish.

What do you desire besides music and gps?

The main thing besides those two are OBDii gauges and diagnostics, especially trans temp. The gauges are part of my justification for spending the money on upgrading. A good set of gauges installed in my truck will run about $350 anyway. I figure I might as well spend about 1k and get everything else I want as well as gauges.

I'd like Bluetooth connectivity with my iPhone and to keep Sirius and steering wheel controls as well as running my stereo system.
