Thread: Car Security Cam Setup

you might want to look at X-10.com. They have all sorts of cameras and a lot of them are wireless. I know this is mostly for houses and such. But it might give and idea.

IMHO a decent dedicated Drive Recorder should not drain an average vehicle battery overnight, I've left mine running for over 20 hours on a number of occasions without a problem. Not sure about some of the “toy batteries” fitted to a few of the newer small vehicles though? I wouldn’t be surprised if a flashing LED security light flattened some of those. (Ducking for cover now)

With that being said...are there any cameras that have at least a 8hr battery life?
I am tying to avoid hardwiring to the car and possibly draining the battery that way...since it will need to record for a period of 8hrs.

Any ideas on how to set this up?

I just finished installing the Blackvue DR 400 HD (1080p) this past weekend. You can use the supplied cig adapter or hook it up to 12v constant via the car's fuse box like I have. The best feature of the BV is the parking mode. This mode can be triggered by motion or by the G sensors which you set via its software. Basically in Parking Mode the camera is always recording but keeping it in "memory", until something trips the camera. At which point it automatically saves the first few seconds before the camera was tripped and keeps recording for the predetermined time. Only downside is the heat this little thing produces...


I still may order another one for a back camera.

Also, ive left it on for 2 days straight with no issues on the car's battery..
