Ready to choose a front end... looking for advice/help

ok, so i have acquired all the parts...

foxconn d52s i pulled for 48$ off ebay with 4gig ram ( i know, cheap, but this is just temporary till i get it working )
infinity reference 5 channel amp ( had from a previous radio install in my jeep)
    lilliput touchscreen
zoom pc case for 25$ from ebay
    m3 atx pico psu
16gb sata SSD drive for 12$ off bay
a 300gb usb drive that i have to store all my music on
a microsloth usb gps dongle that i had laying around from back in the day
4 infinity speakers from the jeep that i pulled with the amp (still have the jeep, but it is going to be a full off road 4x4 now that i have the truck)

Parts i need to get before i can start the install
    Cables for the amp
    Speaker wire
another bezel for my 05 Dakota so i can go back to the factory sterio if i decide to get rid of this truck and put the carputer in another car
some kind of 8" sub that will fit behind the rear seats (less room here than in my jeep!!!)

i have installed windows 7 on the computer and got it up and running, installed the trial version of centrifuse, and it actually plays music thrrough a boombox that i have connected to the computer in my garage.

what i was wondering is, what front ends are people using, centrifuse is kinda slow on this pc, and i dont like the fact that it has no random function for mp3 playback, unless i am missing something, i have over 12000 songs, and i want to random them.

i tried ride runner on my laptop, but it was somewhat confusing to set up and i could not get it to play any music on my laptop when i started testing before i bought all the parts for the computer

i am trying to do this on the real cheap, until i know for sure i will get it to work in my dodge dakota

i guess my question is, what front ends are working the best right now, i like centrafuse, and i am willing to pay for it when the trial period is up if i can get it working more to my liking. i am gonna try the newest version of ride runner, and hope that this install goes better than my last.

You should give DriveLine a tryout, it installs no files on your computer, very quick on slower processors, has everything you would need. SNO

Here is a link to Driveline if you would like to try it: http://www.compulsivecode.com/Project_DriveLine.aspx
Some things are still in development but it is absolutely functional for the majority of needs. Check out the Frontend forums here on mp3car to compare all of the various options. Just make sure to find one with an active developer community!

ok, i tried driveline, didnt like the look of it, looked too much like a windows phone, too many colors and too busy, i could probly skin it, but i couldnt get any of the settings to come up, and for some reason the screen goes reall dim when it runs, and i cant click any buttons.

There are other skins in DL to change from the metropolis theme, It embeds most GPS apps and has its own OSK. I use it with Co-pilot, Streets and Trips, Mappoint, Garmin. As for screen dimming it must have been after 530pm as thats the default time for the auto-dim feature which can be set to whenever. As for not clicking any buttons, are you giving it enough time to load? Just asking, please don't get defensive just trying to figuire out why. Also do you have the latest .net installed with all the updates? Clockwork might be able to chime in and help SNO

Yeah you gotta let it load for a few seconds before it becomes functional. Were you having the 'not clicking' issue after it has finished loading?

I have used Mapfactor and iGo8 with no problems. Plus the GPS speed and direction function of Driveline can be used in tandem with the GPS software with the use of xPort (this makes GPS nav a lot more useful IMO).

Yea, I let it run for 5 or so minutes before I shut it down. I can select nav and music but the volume buttons and a few others are greyed out.

I would imagine the problem is that you downloaded a beta version that is getting radio and xm added to the app. and it probably has all Clockwork's setting in it and since we are testing out radio's the music volume control would be greyed out but if you clicked the mute button it should turn aqua and allow music to be heard. If something is grey it is not available or something else has control. Like GPS at the bottom should be coloured but if you start a gps app like garmin it will grey out as garmin has control of the gps port once you exit garmin DL will have control of gps and icon will be coloured again. Go through settings and setup to your computer if you haven't already. SNO

Well after downloding 2 different versions I gave up on it and went with riderunner and dfx 5. Having 2 issues with the gps. I ordered iguidance and I am waiting for them to send me a dl link. That fixes my gps problem and my other one is my fault reinforcing to get nav 11 working I mucked up my music db. A fresh install should fix that tho. I was planning a format and fresh install before putting this in the truck anyhow
