i know this may be slightly off track but I may have talked my dad into putting a carpc in his 'hot rod' he is building. its a 31 model a ford wide bed pickup that he is turning into an extended cab with a flat head v8 and automatic trans. the only thing he isn't sure about is the $2000 price tag. he did say he might do it after we do one in my car. father and son projects are awesome.

and an on topic question. is there any recommended amps that will run four speakers and one maybe two 10" subs? im hoping to get amp and speakers that are the same brand as long as they fit in the car. I know Rockford fosgate is good but I don't like the price. also can I mount an amp next to the computer on the underside of the rear shelf? my main reason for mounting the carpc on the underside of the rear shelf is its the only hidden spot I can think of that is in the open air.

Most of the prebuilt carpc's use mobile processors to keep heat low, so you can probably mount it anywhere accessable. I have mine mounted behind the rear seat next to my amps:

As far as amps go, I am a die hard Rockford Fosgate fan, so to me there are only to choices, Rockford Fosgate for when I want to do it right, and Jensen when I am trying to save money... (my oldskool feature per dollar favorite)

you can go either way, they have an amp for inside many carpc's thats small on the mp3car store. Processor is for more high end applications.

i think ill go with rf. price isn't as outrageous as I remember. just gotta figure out what size speakers I need. I may just use the amp and speakers in the car for a while and work out any bugs in the computer and screen system. still need to figure out what type of screen to use for an in trunk screen. if I can id like to find a 12-15" usb screen. even a hdmi screen screen may work if I can split the hdmi signal to the main screen and the in trunk screen. if I do that id try and figure out a way to have it where the main screen is off when the trunk screen is on and visa versa. if I do headrest screens they will be non touch and have an on off switch near the main screen.

lots and lots and lots of planning. I hope to have it all planned out before I get the car and work out any wrinkles when I actually have the car. I don't really see any wrinkles besides running wires.

how would I go about connecting a radio tuner and satellite radio when the computer has only line in mic and speaker out. both require a line in but ill be using the mic with a mic and the speaker to the amp. unless the rcas go to the amp and I can use the speaker out as a line in. I know I used to be able to switch what the audio jacks did with my old computer.

If you don't have the front panel onboard plug on mainboard to tie into then your option is something like mitch's 4 in 1 box available on the mp3car store http://store.mp3car.com/USB_Audio_Se..._p/aud-003.htm SNO

looking at that gave me another idea. I have a cb with a pa hook up and a pa speaker. could I tie into it somehow to have sound from pc go through the pa speaker when I want it to and have the sound from the cb go through the car speakers when I want it to. effectively tying the two systems together but still being able to use them separately. I have an external speaker for the cb which id like to use with the cb since the speaker on the cb is to quiet. right now its in my 82 vw diesel pickup which is loud and I can hear the external speaker over the engine but not the internal speaker.

any help with figuring out how to tie those two together if I can with the ability of running them separately would be great.

Here is another option to use sat radio and hd radio to 1 line in. If you can find one as they have been discontinued for awhile now, but fully automatic without software. http://www.installer.com/item/displa...php?it=rca-sw2 As for running cb input to car audio not a problem other than its mono not stereo and having other PA speaker I am not sure if that is do-able without some sort of mixer with multiple outputs. exactly what i was thinking on connecting the cb to the pc. that link comes up as a ipod adapter... but your description does give me an idea of what I need to look for. I did just think of something. if I want to use the cb with the car off ill have to turn the computer on if I connect it to the computer. could I wire it in after the amp so the pc and amp don't need to be on to use it? I might just forget about connecting the cb to the computer and use the external speaker but put a switch in so I can use the pa with the pc. that seems easier to do. split the audio coming out of the pc before the amp with a switch that I control from the drivers seat.

on a side note im still waiting on mo-co-so to update their website with the new parts and software I was told about in the email I copied a few days ago. its been 'a few days' already.
